Default Something Leaking in foot well

Everytime it rains I end up with a big puddle in the front passengers footwell and I can't figure out where it comes from.

I've been in the car while its been raining and there's nothing dripping (i felt around for water behind the glove box and couldn't feel anything), all around the doors are dry so its not leaking in through the door (that I could see) and carpet by the back seats is dry so its not running down from the back.

I put a piece of paper in the effected area and only the bottom got wet and the carpet around the sides of the footwell are dry so it doesn't seem to running down the sides from somewhere.

It almost seems like its coming up from underneath the car but the car is parked.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Had a feel around there couldn't feel anything. Any ideas on how to find out for sure. It seems like quiet a slow leak whereever its coming from and sitting in the car while it was raining I couldn't see anything...

Usually water in the footwell means the catchy thing for drips from the air conditioner condenser under the dash has blocked outlet tubes. There's one tube over the bellhousing on v6 and two tubes same place on v8 I think. Maybe the rain is supposed to be channeled through there and drip out? You need to chuck it on a hoist or crawl under if you're into pain and check it out.

I don't have air conditioning. Would I still have this catchy thing?

get a hose on the outside and have someone in the car to see where its coming from, do different areas until you find your leak, if it isn't from the outside then look into aircon or heater core leaks, if it is the heater core there is a drain hole under it and it should leak above your trans(may be blocked), if its green in the foot well it may help your search

I might just be able to help you out. I had a similar problem in my old VN. Whenever it was raining, I could see some water at the inside top of the roof (adjacent to the rear vision mirror), and my lefthand footwell would end up getting soaked. Once got so bad, I actually had a little lake in the footwell, with the water running to the back under the passenger seat when I accelerated, and the water sloshing over the centre tunnel when I went around a lefthand corner (well, at least the floor panels sealed OK LOL).

I had to get my windscreen replaced at a later date and when the old one was removed, lo and behold there was a big case of rustosis, smack bang in the top middle of the metal roof in the windscreen seal recess. The guy replacing the windscreen had seen this problem before & said that the swelling of the rust tended to break the rubber sealant around the windscreen & cause water leakage problems. The rust spot was completely unnoticeable from the outside & was only apparent once the windscreen was out.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

i had this same prob in my vs i know u havent got a vs and there not the same but it could be a simular prob. i used to get a puddle in the pasenger side floor i took it back to the car yard were i got it from they took it 2 there windscreen guy he couldnt find anything, he pulled out the door trim kick panels carpet up cpuldnt find a thing so i left it wen i sold the car i had to fix it and i got told it can sometimes leak down the aerial hole and then travell down the aerial and then drop onto the carpet, but my windscreen was no good so i replaced it and it stopped it ended up that i had a vr windscreen in my vs they are very slightly diff but once again make sure the air vents in the cowl vent are not blocked up or cracked even better get a high pressure hose and squirt some in there and see wat happens try the aerial thing too and look for it in the car and run ur hand along it. ps. sorry bout the long post but i talk alot lmao!!!!

like my first post - try the windscreen...............there is a "how to" about the rear quarter windows and why they leak. I did mine and no more leaks in boot or back passengers seat. So if the rear fail, i would say the front will fail with age. !!

thanks guys. i have a real good cracked windscreen now so i'll let you know if that sorts it out when that gets replaced.
Glad to hear i'm not the only one who gets a lake on the inside of their car lol.
also have heard the aerial being a problem getting water dripping down it, appears to be dry under there but what's this air vent cowl you speak of?

Water seems to be coming in along the floor just in front of the door. Would that an arial leak or windscreen? Its not dripping but coming from under the plastic.
Or is there no real way to tell without taking the panels off?

Just fixed the same problem on my brothers vn. Where the bonnet hinge is in that area it was leaking from the seam. Its hard to explain without uploading a pic but anyway just got a tube of seam sealer and fixed it up.

While I was given the car a it of maintance I found the "hole" under the bonnet hinge didn't have the same netting as the other side and its got so much dirt and leaves in there. Porured a hole lot of water in it and it was slow to drain out the bottom. Also notice water coming out behind the metal patch top of the wheel.

    Could this cause it?

How can I clean this area out, It looks seperate to the guards.

Sorry if this is unclear, I dont actually have a camera so can't upload photos.

Thats the same spot i had to fix the seam. Maybe use an old bottle brush to clean out that hole.
