    Default Storing my VP

    Hey Guys,

I did a bit of a search and couldn't find any VP specific answers on this...
I am going OS for a year and will be storing my Calais in the shed, problem is I am finding conflicting info on the subject.
Some say drain the fluids, some say top them up.
Some say put the car on stands, some say don't.
Some say start the car often, some say don't.
Some say leave doors/boot open so seals don't get crushed, some don't.

I would be inclined to leave oil and fuel (with a stabaliser), and drain coolant (leaving hoses off to dry out). Remove battery, place on stands but still have some pressure on the suspension, wash thoroughly, leave hand brake off (just in case it rust's in place), have some bi-carb soda or similar on floor to trap moisture/smells, and use a car cover. Doors closed but windows down an inch.

Does this sound like a good plan??

Also I would like to keep the car registered as I will be home for a few weeks half way through and will need to drive. Is there a conditional rego I can get that is cheaper or is that only for street rods/historic cars??

    Thanks

Mate if i was going away for a year i would put the thing on the lowest possible stand setting just to take the tyre height not to lift the chassis, leave the fluids as is, if you start letting the coolant areas air out you may get corrosion begin to form internally, leave the battery in just disconnect the negative, leave the doors and boot closed if you are really concerned about the seals just vas them up before you go, handbrake on will be fine and overall just give it a clean and vacuum and leave a smelly tree hanging off your mirror, if you want it to stay dry get some dessicant in a bag and leave it in the car.

As for turning it over and running it, If you have the option to get some one to drive it once every month or so, don't bother with the stands or fluids or battery, just get them to take it for a half hour drive and everything will be as you left it (provided they don't drive into a pole)

Its a VP mate, they've been around for almost 20years, 1 year away won't kill it and if anything does die there are enough spares to go around, I've got what ever you need.

HAHA yeah that sounds about right, if it was going to die it probably would have by now. Thought if i took coolant/battery out it would deter some family members who have a tendancy to take other family members cars and not look after them from having a free pass for a whole year to trash my pride and joy.

Me agree with agrsv8 man, but I'd pull the battery out and put it in a container in the boot to discourage family from driving it. Apart from that cover it up and it'll be fine. Maybe spray spider spray when you come back before driving.
