What would I need to do to change to a 4L60E instead of the 4L60 the car has. The difference clearly being the kickdown change from cable to electric, can it be done?
Anything can be done... It just depends if you have the time, money, knowledge and mates whether it will be hard or harder...
whats the point of changing it???
because the one in it is screwed and i can get one cheap but not sure if its possible to use it
i will say this once get it repiard it is not worth buying cheap autos trust me
Ok the one I can get cheap has all gears working,a vast improvement on only havin 1st n 2nd,I only have the one car and want to get the stuffed box thats in it fixed up properly which as ya know aint cheap! Will the box work ok apart from kick down could i just not use the stick and it be ok till i get the other one back?
negative, the "e" in 4l60e is for electronic, you need the loom and computer from the ecu to control the trans, just get the trans properly fixed. it will only be off the road a few days if you can get it reconditioned, some places do exchange so look into that, you could give over cash, your box, walk away with a new trans put it in and be on the road in half a day.
ps there is a couple of cheap 5l turbo700's on ebay atm
Cheers for that will see what I can do then all help much appreciated give it a rev for me!!!
another transmission question for yous since u all seem to know about trannies, completely off subject but when i start my vn and put it into D (drive) or R (reverse) it does not engage the gear straight away like i could sit there for 20 seconds waiting for it to go into gear and if i get impatient and give it a rev it sounds like its gonna blow up or somethin and then jams into gear but then it will drive fine, other then that i have to wait until i feel it drop into gear... anyone know what this could be? i have checked the trans fluid level and it is fine it is also red still, does not look discoloured or chunky or anything like that, ive just done an oil change, new oil filter and all
