i just bought a 5 litre vn formula with a auto transmission it went fine for a few days now when you click into drive or reverse it takes maybe 5 seconds for the gearbox to have any drive (as if car is still in park or neutral but is definately in gear). This happens mainly when its cold. its not got a massive stall converter or anything like that cause it will move along at idle once the transmission decides to drive. Any ideas whats up and is it repairable or does it need replacing
Get a $30 transmission service kit from repco,
Swap out the gasket, filter and oil and see what happens.
Check the fluid level for a start.
Warranty Void
my mates pajero was doing that a couple of weeks ago so we did the tranny service on it but that didnt work, so then we added this additive called lucas transmission fix for like 20 bucks at repco and within a few days the problem had gotten much much much better (wasnt fully gone though). i know it sounds like an additive wouldnt do anything but ive also used this stuff on my vp when it was slipping and it helped heaps. thats my suggestion anyways, worth a shot for only 20 bucks......
cheers mate i will do service and try the additive, could be a cheap stop gap at least, ive only had the car for 2 weeks so not really wanting to lay out big bucks for a new tranny. by the way that kit looks sweet i think vn and vp are very sexy with late model kits. keep up the good work champ
You be very suprised what a simple fluid and filter change will fix in an auto box... Because all the gear changes and stuff rely on good quality fluid to operate properly and when you want it to
my vs acclaim was hitting limited before it changed gear, wasn't selecting when cold, and generaly running like shite.. I gave it a simple service.. Cost me about 60 bucks.. And fixed it.. Drives like a new one and that was months and months ago
If you've got a 3inch exhaust it may be blocking your transmission pan. Can turn an easy job into a pain in ass (transmission service) if ya gotta remove exhaust to get at your pan depending on age of your exhaust too.
take off the square cowling on your engine at the front that has the holden lion on it and check the cables under neath are correctly tightened. one of these cables if for the tranny. I had a vp v8, i took it to a joint for a service and the undid the tranny cable, when i put in gear it took awhile and would not change into 2nd. i drove down the street in 1st and then when it did change into 2nd it did with a huge clunck.
