    Default Front Rotors Glowing

    Hey guys,

I bought my VP about 2 weeks ago and since then it has been having problems with the brakes.
After 20 minutes of driving the front brake pads touch on the disk/rotor and do not retract.

I have lubed up the piston in both calipers and it made no difference, i am about to take the front wheels off again and have another look.

I just came back from repco and figured might as well look at which brake is giving me the problem and that's when i saw the 2 front disks very very blue and hot.

The rear 2 were just warm.

What can i do to fix this problem? It is really starting to piss me off because i can only drive 20 minutes until i have to pull over and let the brakes cool down for a good 40 minutes.

    Thanks, Terry.

Check the Brake Fluid, may be old and crappy.. But, if i were you, just to be safe.. I'd replace everything on the brakes for the front

The fluid is old and crap looking, ill change that right now actually. Ill give them a bleed and hopefully we are all good. (trying to think positive).

The pads have heaps of meat still on them so i wont bother replacing them.

I have done soooo much searching to find someone that has/had the same problem but cant find anything.

i know in the vt setup i have on my vn there is an adjustment bolt on the booster to setup the mastercylinder pressure, mine was way too tight when i installed the conversion, but i think on the standard vn/vp v6 booster it is just a fixed pin

Had a feeling it was the Master cylinder, was hoping no one would say that also lol.

On the brake pads they have a metal plate on the side that does not touch on the rotor. Just wondering what they are for?

Ill go get a master cylinder from Pick-A-Part tomorrow. Should i give it a crack of installing it my self? I have taken many many of them off and apart but have never installed one.

    Thanks, Terry.

I HOPE TO GOD THIS CAR GETS STOLEN!

Took it out for a drive after doing what i can to the front calipers. Now the engine light comes off and on, wouldnt have a clue where to start looking.

Also when im doing 40 plus K's and i let go of the accelerator then put my foot back on it while the car is still moving, i can hear a clunk then a jolt then it drives again.

Im guessing its the transmission, but the tranny never slips or even on frosty cold mornings it always goes straight into gear.

what the hell is going on with this car? As i said above i bought it 2 weeks ago and have spent a fair bit of cash on it. Ungrateful bastard!

Well, you could see what codes are coming up from the computer first, which should narrow it down a bit. And the clunk might be (just guessing here) a broken engine mount, maybe a rear one.

Some cars are just bastards and there is nothing you can do about it, they just suck your wallet dry.

Well said sleepa, im going to leave it as is for today because if i go back out there im definetly going to brake something.

Ill check out the codes tomorrow and hopefully its nothing major.

and you also might be correct about the broken engine mount. I had a quick look and they are worn out pretty bad.

Im thinking about forking out a couple grand, giving the car to a mechanic and tell him to fix everything.

The brake problem would be as simple as putting a kit in the calipers. The seal that sits inside the caliper does two things, it stops the fluid from leaking out and also pulls the piston back a bit after the brake pedal is released. This seal goes hard after time and doesn't flex anymore resulting in the piston pushing the pads against the rotors and holding them there.

Thanks for the info mate, when i checked the calipers today the pads looked brand new.
I greased up the seals today so i hope that helps a bit.
I dont think there is anything else i can do apart from buying a master cylinder.

Just thinking out loud here but have you checked the pins that the caliper slides on? Correct me if I'm wrong but commodores have calipers that only have the pistons on the one side.. When the brakes are applied the pistons also pull the other side of the caliper into action. What could be happening is those pins could be siezing up and the side of the caliper that gets pulled in would be stuck against the rotor al the time, rubbing and causing it to get hot. Have a squiz and wack some grease or wd40 on it and see how you go

Thanks for the input guys, but i just arrived home and found the car missing the glass all over the road.
Called the cops, they found the car and apparently all the front is caved in.
So now i got no car, which means no more work for me.
You guys are about to see a very very broke and depressed person soon.
