hi all, on the weekend i was driving back from noosa and decided to be lazy and use cruise control on the motorway, so i set it and did all the usual stuff, but as soon as i pressed set the speed became erratic and could not remain steady at one speed.
im new to the whole electric speedo type setup so this is just a stab in the dark but im guessing the speed sensor could be the issue (this could also help with my other issue of the speedo being out by a few k's this varies depending on the actual speed, eg: it reads 60 but gps tells me im doing 75, but other times its out by only 5 k's)
can anyone back me up on my guess and tell me where it is located and how do i change it?
not really too concerned about the speedo being out, but i would love to enjoy cruise control once 'n awhile
any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated
The variable "speedo is out 5 or 20 k's" may well be the speedo head. The VN gauge units were never very smooth and have not aged well at all.
Check the voltage regulator inside the cluster for cracked solder joints. If all good on that and the speedo still plays up then a new speed sensor may be the go.
Its located on the side of the gearbox to the rear. Takes a bit of getting to in the drive way - easy as on a hoist.

ahh, ok thanks for the quick reply 88GreenVN.
i'll check the solder joints at work, but im thinking i might as well replace the sensor while im at it. atleast that way i know everything should be all good and hopefully keep the candy cars away from my rearview mirror :-)
