Hey guys,
I am looking at getting my engine sump changed in my VP but not looking at spending big bucks.
I am more then capable to change it over my self but i do not have the correct tools nor do i have the space. I am living in a unit with 4 cars in the driveway already.
I am just curious weather it would be cheaper to call a mobile mechanic or get my car towed to a mechanic and get it all fixed up there.
Has anyone ever taken there car in for a sump change and if so how much did it set you back?
Thanks, Terry
If you're in Bayswater try calling Shane at Commodore Frenzy (just off Mountain Hwy in Kalman Drive Boronia) as he has reasonable labour rates (from what i've experienced when I've had things done anyway)
Most mobile mechanic services end up costing a lot more on labour than taking your car somewhere
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
If you can find a way of doing it yourself that that'd be the cheaper option by far... Mobile mechanics rates can cost a bomb... For Instance our call out bloke charges 4 hours just for showing up.. That's whether it takes 4 hours or 10 minutes.. The again.. Towies can charge a bit too...
I'd be doing it myself if it were me.. I've done a sump gasket in a 1 car carport before... Space was a pain in the bum but it got done
Try and find an independant guy.
You will pay more than taking you car to a mechanic.
I was forced to use one of the large franchised ones, I have had nothing but farkin dramas. I have called them out 4 times to rectify something they stuffed (they replaced the fuel pump in my missus' car and stuffed the fuel sender).
The last guy that come out never put the fuel pump in correctly, and when I went to fill up, most of what I was pumping in went all over the floor. I rang this mob, got put through to the regional manager who told me that it wasn't his problem and that I would have to wait until someone became available to come to the servo, between 2 - 4 hours. I lost it at him and someone turned up 30 mins later. I had appointments that morning as well.
Fuel sender is still not working right so I'm going to ring them up again and force them to pay for Holden to repair it, otherwise its the fair trading department for me.
End rant.
I'd reccomend Shane or Aaron at Commodore Frenzy, they have all the parts at hand and and excellent product knowledge and they have very reasonable labour rates. They should be able to organise to pick your car up and take to their workshop cos they have cars being delivered all the time from the auctions.
Call them on 9729 8126 or 0439 339 552 or drop in to Kalman drive Boronia and talk to them first. They are technically in Boronia but they are so close to Bayswater (Kalman drive is left off Mountain Hwy a little bit past Dorset Rd intersection) they are perfect for you.
I really like these guys, I bought heaps of bits off them and have mechanical work done when it's hoist time and too awkward for me to do it, like your situation.
