Anyone have any idea why my VN 88 V6 wagon has a hair trigger throttle.
Even the slightest pressure makes the car lurch forward - almost as if it's a sticky throttle cable or something.
I've lubed up the pedal spring thing and that didn't do much.
Could it be the throttle cable?

How is it idling?
I think its normal TBH, could be wrong.
Isn't that the reason they started using the bellmouth?
I thought it was normal on the earlier VN's as well then Holden rectified it with the October 89 update ?
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
depends on the tune is it a stock tune too big of a jump from idle spark advance to normal main spark advance makes them violent
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong

it's a Greenfoam tune. Even running it on gas has not soffen'd the take off.

they had this prob from factory i heard! could be wrong but i heard the prob was a throttle linkage fault or something like that and i heard they had a lot of complaints from older people regarding excessive wheel spin on take off (punchy) my missus has a 90 vn berlina sedan stock as a rock and its also a real punchy ride! also i heard that the problem wasnt rectified until the vp was released! but from our stocko vn doing the same thing (always has since we bought it 5 year ago) id say its normal! hope this helps
check the throttle blade doesnt close till it sticks it happens a lot they jam when fully shut and bounce quite a way open when you gas on.if its fealing sticky at the TB in the engine bay turning it by hand just off idle just crack the idle screw till it doesnt stick any more then reset ecu

Hi Shane
The post before this suggested the throttle butterfly could be at fault and that was my opinion too but adjusting the throttle idle screw isn't the best fix. I reckon it could be that the throttle body needs cleaning out. If the carbon and crap builds up sufficiently, the throttle sticks in the body and more pressure than normal is required to open it. At first, you are not conscious of having to apply extra pressure on the pedal, so you put your foot down and the buitterfly stays shut, then snaps open. Stretch in the cable enables this to happen so that you are not really aware of the problem.
You only become aware of it when it gets really bad, like mine did, but if it has just started to happen, give the throttle body a good clean out (and I think it's worth removing the assembly to clean it, rather than just spraying carby cleaner down the throat). You might be surprised how much crap has accumulated. In particular, clean the edges of the butterfly because that's where the actual sticking arises from.
My throttle had become quite stiff when the pedal was first depressed. I checked the butterfly and found that it was sticking in the body pretty badly and needed a fair bit of pedal pressure to get it to release. Carbon build-up around the edge of the butterfly was quite noticeable. After stripping, cleaning and reassembling, the car started easily, but idled much faster than normal - around 1500 -1750 rpm. I adjusted the cable and this brought it back to about 1300 but no lower. However, after a week or so, it had adjusted itself back to normal idle speed.
hmm it might not be related but mine used to do that alot as well. on my learners it was a pain because when pulling out into traffic, i would punch it a bit to get moving then I would cop a flaming from dad haha. Since getting a tune from greenfoam (where i requested he make the car as economical as possible). Sine i installed that, the throttle is so much less violent - much more grandpa spec. it'll still shift its ass when i throttle more tho. So i think the tune may play a part in this, joined with the bellmouth, or lack of.
