Default cops and theives, does it get worse? ign barrel and steering lock

After getting a defect, thanks copper, apparently i had an oil leak and my seat belts dont engage, what a joke hey?
anyways I bought a bunky VN just to get around and it has been broken into. The guy i got it off has tried to fix it and has made a mess of the ign barrel, the steering lock was always engaged so he just brute force snapped it so he could drive the car,
my question is, how can i break the steering lock so i can drive it safely? Im about to pull it right apart to teach myself but if anybody knows an easy way to repair or remove it that would be great!
Hope my car gets passed soon
    cheers
    Steve

Same thing, use brute force to snap the catch, or pull apart the ignition clamp on the steering columbe

Driving a vehicle, on a road, that is not roadworthy or has been illegally modified has always been an offence. Nothing new about defects, they have been around for at least 40 yrs. Here's a tip, if your car looks crap and sounds even worse then you will (eventually) attract the attention of law enforcement and likely earn a efect or have your car puit off the road (impounded). No good crying about it, whinging about it, moaning about it. Road Traffic Laws and laws governing vehicle standards have been introduced for the protecton of the majority. If you happen to be one of the minority, then until you become one of the former, life will always seem hard with heaps of Police attention, lots of fines, defect notices etc etc. What's the secret to avoiding such attention: G R O W U P !!

Gotta love how you all totally ignored the point of the thread to have a wank over his complaint about his defect. Big tough interweb men you lot are.

Steve, Grab yourself workshop manual (haynes, max ellery) and have a squiz.

Actually...he asked a question by putting ? after his comment so i think its a fair call.
Altho they could have been a little more suttle !
Sorry to hear about the break in...sorry i cant offer any help.
The idea about a manual sounds the way to go.
Hope you can get it sorted.
