Guys (and girls if applicable)..
Im in need of replacing the inner driveshaft (axel) boots of the Calais (VP - IRS) for RWC. However one or more of the hex/allen bolts have been slightly rounded.
Now, I have options - I can get the car to a mechanical workshop locally who believs he can cut the head of the bolt, drill the thread and re-do it all and whatnot, and im sure if I go to suspension workshops they can sort it out.
The issue I have, is the car has a defect, and unregisted.. So no plates, nothing. To get the car on the road is either Trade Plates, or a trailer/truck which is expensive.
Ideas on how I can get around this?
only other way i can think of is threadtech they are a compant that will come out to you and repair/remove damaged bolts they are about 100 bucks an hour but have saved me and mates many a time then you can pull the shaft out and get it fixed then put it back in!~

Thanks for the reply man.. Im confident the guy is gonna say no, or ask for much more than $100p/hour if he has to work on the car in Melbourne :P
Cheers though!
they are national i think...... they would come and remove it i hope
only other option is to do it yourself
file two opposite sides of the bolt unitl flat and fit a SPANNER not a shifter then undo if this fails cut head off bolt...
too bad i cant be of service so far away ;(
yeah when you get stuffed bolts i know the feeling you just wanna grab the last guy by the face and smash it into the bolt but yeah at the end of the day you dont have many options
as long as you dont damage the cv itself anything you do can be fixed just remember that!~
Lol.. not really man.. I dont care who did it or who didn't do it.. I just want it off.. I need it done so I can replace torn driveshaft boots, and then im almost done for RWC.
I had the same problem when replacing my diff I just heated the bolt up then undid it with multi grips
CHEV badges Australia says no
fighting online is like racing on a special olympic. Even if you were to Win! your still ####ing retarded
go buy some penetrene ($15 from blackwoods) and soak it overnight, then try as vpcalais6 said, heat it up and multigrips, if not try a gator grip if you can get your hands on one :P
i guess if your replacing that boot where your heating it up it wont hurt anything else around that area AGREED WITH PREVIOUS 2 POSTS!~
if it wont come with the jaws of life you can still file it to give you more tourque onto the bolt as there round outers if i recall...
Update:
I removed all but one bolt, which was the slightly burred one, and i'm pretty sure I made it a little worse by trying it with an 8mm allen, Was going to try and mash a 9mm in there and get that going, but didn't like the idea. Tried Multi-Grips, but that was a fail, slipped a bit on the bolt - didn't have enough room to file both opposite sides of the bolt.. Was about to cut the head of the bolt off and piss it off, but didnt lol.
As its the INNER boots (closest to diff) I thought about this twice, and removed the 7 bolts from the inner driveshaft, and have the cup from the shaft off now, found a "Snap Ring" there, afver a good half hour trying to get this ring off with small allen keys, scredrivers and pliers, I gave up.. Looked up some shit, and found there's actual pliers for these snap rings.
Job for tomorrow!

I thought that you were allowed to drive an unregistered car to and from workshop in daylight hours as long as you have it booked in (So the mechanic will back you up if you get pulled over)
That's how it works in Vic unless something has changed and nobody told me.
Warranty Void
Thats with a registered vehicle permit. According to vicroads website you can't get a permit on a defected vehicle, which mine is (defect hasnt been lifted yet).. however, I've heard some things here and there, and I might be able to get it..
Im 80% thru the boot replacement.. if I can get it, saves $$$ on labor!
