If you're after cheap and loud. There's a mob on ebay doing 2.5" straight through mild steel exhausts to suit your car for about $190.

I got redback 2.5 on my wagon with straight pipe on back, still too quiet. Thinking maybe my cats blocked up or somthing lol, was about $250 fitted at local exhaust place.

    Not exactly cheap though.
$600+ just for the extractors. $300 a pop for the cats.

Shouldn't be too hard to make a 5ltr sound old school.
They didn't change THAT much since 1969 .

Anyone done the setup- Hotdog muffler in the middle and big-ish ressie on the back? heard this makes the v8 sound grunty on throttle yet quiet when putting around, with no drone? Anyone have videos of a setup like this??

My v8 sounds ok now, but im keen to try a change.

Doing this at the moment on my mates VR.
Taken a 3"section from a VX SS, modified the front end of the VR to suit it. The VX rear section fits the VR like a glove.

All its got is a resonator on the back. It'll drone but its not loud perse.

thanks for the ideas and advice still cant really decide dont know how much better noise the 3inch will make from the 2.5 is it even worth it or will a 2.5inch be enough? also i dont really wanna upgrade to a 3inch cat for the bigger exhaust if theres not much diff between the 2.

I kept the HM headers and had a twin cat, twin 2.5" exhaust made up which joined and went into a 3 inch muffler at the rear, no resonator.

I lost bottom end on this so if I would do it again, I'd just go a single 2.5".

2 1/2" exhaust, chop off the resonator and put a pipe through your cat. Acts like its hollowed but cops and Vic Roads cant tell the difference
