Replacing The Diff

i think my diff has gone in my VN. there's some serious backlash in the driveline, and i think it's coming from the diff.

i've jacked the rear up, and spinning on wheel there's definite play in the diff. should there be?

anyway if i need to change it, what's the best way? you can't service the diff at home can you? so i need to buy one of those changeover rear axles?

personally i've never changed a diff but have destroyed a few a mechanic friend of mine once told me when your changing the diff center get it right the first time or you will stuff the whole thing again.

if in doubt take it to a pro or it could become a costly experience.
