My mate recently bought a VP, he tells me a few days later "Yer man its sick its got a low compression engine so would be good for a turbo" Now from what i know low compression engine is not a good thing at all. How long would you say before it needs an overhaul? Cars done 210thou..
He's talking about the compression ratio. The buick is low(er) from memory but I dont have the figures.
AFAIK they never made a specific low compression engine like they did with the early V8's and 6cyls.
They run rough 9:1 compression as standard which isn't fantastic for forced induction but they're capable of withstanding about 10psi every day.
If its actually down on compression, good chance it's got no rings left.
^I just read the VN-VP buick was 8.5:1 but the VR had slightly higher due to different pistons. If anyone can confirm this![]()
In a book I have,it says the VN/VP V6 has 8.5:1, and the VR V6 has 9.0:1.The VS V6 went up again to 9.35:1.
