Its MUCH easier to buy a wreck with a 5ltr in it. So you get all the parts. If you try to source it all indervidually, you'll be at it all year. Will take a weekend to get it all in. months to sort out all the little gremlins .

exhaust (can use a v6 2.5, but need headers)
    radiator and hoses
1" brake MC and booster and the finned v8 calipers
    gearbox
    wiring loom
    k frame
    good to do suspension too.
this all assumes you get a reasonably intact 5l with clutchfan, Power steering pump, alternator and most hoses.

Throw the clutch fan over your shoulder.
For what it costs get a thermo fan. Even a fan of an ecotec.

yer i agree with the others buy a wreck and it'll be easier than runnin all over the place and getting charged an arm and a leg for individual parts. Or you could always sell your current car and buy one with a v8 theres heaps decent cars on ebay atm for couple of grand.

yeah, but you'll easily spend 2k getting a gearbox here, a loom there and all the rest. i'm with everyone else in this thread, best to get a wreck take the parts you need and sell the rest.

Don't do it unless you love the sound of the v8, go out one night and find a vq or vn vp Calais 5ltr and drag him, if it's stock you have a very good chance of winning, I couldn't justify spending that much for not much more power and a little more torque, if your after some cheap power I seen in your other post you have 2 grand to spend find a turbo or charger kit and make sure you get it tuned, my vp 6 is now on 7psi and on the weekend I beat a s14 Silvia and keeped up with a manual vx gen 3. You will be wrapped the Buick is strong enough to handle 10 psi just don't short cut tuning it or else it will pop, cheers.

Good luck finding a decent kit for 2k. Wait a while, save up and spend the extra on a raptor supercharger.

293 Nm versus 385 Nm for a stock 5 litre (or 400 Nm for a HSV variant) is bit than a little more torque.

It makes a substantial difference to how the car drives - much less effort required to get going.

Is 2 grand enough to make decent power from a FI kit reliably?

Import an m62 and manifold from the states while the dollar is good, you will pay a grand plus 850-1000 for a tune and you might wanna make a smaller pulley, each to there own of course but that's my story for good power, cheers

Yeh that's the eaton m62 he does an ok job but the chip provided is absolute junk unless you love putting in 98 octane and a bottle of octane booster and still having your engine ping and engine light comes on while boosting, he also has no idea about the pulleys as when I bought mine off him I was only getting 5 psi and I couldn't be bothered dealing with him because he has no idea and I just got a new pulley made up from billet alloy, cheers

Hey mate octane booster is just a bottle you can by from servo and car shops it adds octane to your petrol so if you put in normal fuel 95 put a bottle in it claims to make it 98 or even higher, if your not mechanically minded defiantly get him to fit it all it does take a while to do it properly and there was a fair bit of customizing still involved and don't forget the chip he gives is as useless as tits on a bull so keep it in mind if you want to do it properly you need a proper tune, with other mods you should see 160+ at the rear wheels kw and the sound of the charger is awsome

Hey mate I paid 1800 and installed it myself the kits used to be cheaper but now they are not, as with the intercooler you need to get a boost diversion plate that sits under the charger itself and channels the air out the side of the plate so you can plumb up your pipes to the intercooler and on the other side it plumbs back into it and goes into the engine, look them up on mace engineering for an l67 ecotec if you like to see them, ad far as I am aware there isn't a plate I no of made for the m62 not to sure if the m90 ecotec one fits, And they are like 1500 or something from memory, as for mods if your charger has the same sized pulley as my one did you will get 5 psi which is bugger all and you will be disappointed as I said he does an ok job but I wasn't entirely happy I choose to take matters into my own hands and get a pulley made up 2.7 pulley gives me 8psi and now it starts to move ( he claims you will get 10-12 depending on what fuel you run) Not to sure exact power figures yet getting it dynoed but I can truthfully tell you with a 65ml throttle body pace makers and cat back exhaust and 8psi and shift kitted auto I can and have keeped up with a manual vx gen 3 and I also had a full car, the v6 does do alright, cheers mate
