hey so in the past few weeks my brakes have started to get squeaky as hell. i am 99.9% sure it is coming from the front brakes, not the rear. i took both my front wheels off and checked out my rotors and they still had plenty of meat on them and they weren't bumpy like they needed machining or anything. i also looked at the pads and they still have heaps on them too. being totally confused i did the same checks on the rear brakes but they were really good too, so i just let it go hoping it may get better, but they have just gotten worse. so i took off the front wheels again and took the pads out of the caliper and found they were really really glazed up, so taking advice from a mate i roughened the pads up a bit with a really rough file to take the glaze out. this seemed to have worked for the first hour or so of driving again but now the squeak is back again and the pads are pretty glazed up again. i havnt changed my style of driving/braking or anything so im really confused why this is only just starting to happen now out of nowhere when ive had these pads on for about 6 months now. do you's think i should just get some new better quality pads or do you's think it could be something else thats causing it? cheers for any responses
Get some anti-squeal from Repco, apply liberally behind the brake pad where the caliper makes contact. If that does not cure your problem, then I would be replacing brake pads because very cheap pads squeak because of the inferior quality but I doubt it's your pads.
if your discs are glazed first do what old mate said about anti-squeel and then re-bed your pads as follows, accelerate to 60 and brake fairly hard down to around 20klms, repeat 6 or so times, do not come to a complete stop, if this fails then machine your rotors. pads are probable not the problem.![]()
mate I'v had the same kind of problem i tryed everything and there is nothing worse then taxi brakes. found out that my rotors had tiny hair line cracks in them that was the problem with mine plus cheap pads r what they r cheap. there is this stuff called de-squeak you spray it on your rotors and for the back of ur pads its a pressure pack can at bursons you spray on the back of your pads works well. good luck.
hey also when u take your pads out and they r glazed just rough them up on some rough concrete or on the road that way they stay flat.
yeh that spray you can buy works well
