I have looked through the threads and cant find anything on this anyone know how to remove the gear knob? also i dont know if this requires removing the latch for to reverse safety thing.
from memory you just wiggle it a little and pull it up.
If you mean the gear knob on a manual, I just unscrew mine. I have no reverse gear lock out.
yeah its quite hard the first time, you just have to pull from the base of the knob part and kinda pull outwards at the same time. after you've got it off for the first time all the bits that help hold the knob on kinda die a bit and it becomes alot easier to take it off in future![]()

this may help if it's an auto..

oh this is for a manual gear lever and it has that reverse lock mechanism too?
For a manual, screw the knob anti-clock wise![]()
is there any internal connection to the reverse lock thing because the bit u pull up to put it in reverse goes inside the gear knob?
The standard T5 has no reverse lockout. Towards you > down = reverse. If this isnt the case then its not a standard box and I have no idea
Basically the majority of manual knobs unscrew.
Wait, I'm confused. You sure it isnt auto? I know you can shift between certain gears without having to lift the handle. Or is it a ratchet-like shifter by any chance? That would make sense, I think.
no its manual it has a reverse lock kinda like the volvos u have to lift the plastic part under the gear knob to get it into reverse im guessing this isnt a common thing :P might try my local holden wrecker and see what they suggest. Cheers anyways
Chuck up some pics so I know what youre on about
99% sure it isnt factory, unless it was a special edition or something. Crawl under and get some pics of the box aswell
Are you sure you cant just select reverse without lifting the thing? I thinking maybe the knobs from a different car. Tried unscrewing it? lol
