ive pulled my pride and joy VN out of retirement and into my shed and am in the process of stripping it down to nothing and re-birthing her to what she was, but to beautiful condition.. anyways it currently has a S1 3.8 in it, 5 speed manual BUT the manual was a conversion job so it has an adapter plate on it. Now the engine runs, but id like to rebuild it and change the crank over to a manual one so i can piss off the adapter plate.
My question is though, for the money i am going to spend on a rebuild with crank etc, am i better off finding an Ecotech to throw in?
I intend to add some gofast goodies under the bonnet one day (aspirated?), but to get me going again what would be the cheaper option? Cheers.
BTW, no, i do not want to put a V8 in it.
Ecotec = more power and better economy, how can you go wrong. Buy a wreck and you'll have all the bits cheap and you can sell what you don't want.
Warranty Void
I wouldnt bother screwing around with an ecotec Finding a 8 botl ecootec flywheel is near impossible so unless your willing to convert to auto. Then i suggest buying an exchange manual S1 motor or buying a manual s1 motor and rebuild it. The advantages is you can buy your bits slowly and bump the comp up throw a cam in and be happy with what you'll only ever get from a v6

yeh f**k going an auto, manual or nothin! so a manual s1 motor would be cheaper than buying the crank and other bits to convert mine to a manual, is that what ur getting at?
Yeah its a hassle to convert the crank first you got to find one. Really you best buying a whole motor if its in good nic just swap the motors over much easier than replacing the crank or you can rebuild if if its not as good condition as your old one.
Your other option if you got the cash is to buy a rebuilt exchange manual motor. Probably Cost about 2000
