Default Hey :) - Have a Question, RE- Rust !

    Hello fello' Commodore lovers

Im currently looking at Lexcen VP ( I Know it's not holden, dont hurt me lol )
Im wondering, how easy is it to fix the rust that sits on the back window.. Common area for vn-p's ?

Or should I have it sent to the mechs and have them Fix it?

This lexcen vp is just a babe, really nice.. apart from its rust lol !

I will give +Rep to helpfull and informative posts
    Thanks!

Go to a smash repair shop/panel beaters.

The rear windscreen will have to come out and rust cut out and plate welded in. It's not cheap, Don't expect much change from $1000.

damimt. same deal here, a few little rust spots are forming along the roof + rear window seal.
i fish oiled it, and might get around to touchup painting it.
    any other preventative measures?

If its only small bubbles, use a screw driver to scratch them off ASAP, use some rust converter on them and then paint them with what ever to seal it and stop the metal oxidising again, it isn't pretty but will stop it getting worse.

+1 thats really good advice, some people just see rust bubbles forming and they ignore it
    they should do this

that makes sense, will do that soon.. now wouldnt there be rust also deeper under the seal? or would pulling the top of the seal back enough to trickle a bit of rust convertor down there and as its oil, it will spread and creep along? This is just well what can be done without actually taking the window out / cos i dont know how to or want to.

okay dokie.. Got a fair few quotes for rust repair like this in QLD..

Right, so this lexcen has say.. 5-6 rust holes.. Majority of places I contacted quoted 400-600 to cost at max (Belive it or not..)

So.. It's not really all to bad imo, pricey in a way.. but, worth it imo

Now, the second part is.. Is a lexcen vp 92 with 201 on its clock worth it ..

Seller only wants 1k for her..

Things Ive checked and will fail on Road Worthy..

Tyres. (Got a spare set here ..)
    Windscreen
    Rust - of course lmao...

I suspect new thermostat and new rad.

Other than I can't fault it.. Im heading around this arvo again to take some pics, and I shall upload for all to see

EDIT - and no doubt it would need a general service.. its been off the road for 6months

Well, if that's the car you want, they're all going to have the same issues, so its neither here nor there really.

Best advice is don't take a loan out on such a car anyway (well its not smart to do it at all, but eh we all do I guess)

I applied for a loan, but was Denied.. cause im what they call "Neutral" My credit rating is not bad or good..

Soo.. they save, if you want a loan.. save some $$$ up.. and it will be re-considered, lol. Sorta glad I suppose..

For a grand, you're better off saving it man, otherwise you're spending $500+ more to pay off the loan. Doesn't make much sense.

Ohh the loan was intimately for 5k - 10k loan.. I would NEVER take a loan out for a car thats more than 5-10 yrs old ;p
