    Default VN aprl90 injector/cylinder probs

    hey guys/gurls

was working on my car today and relised that the injector/cylinder 4 and 2 arnt working.
when taking the injector plug off these 2 then engine doesnt drop in revs like it should?
any ideas on what could be causing this problem.

    things ive tryed:
checked the spark plug leads there sparking,
    replace all spark plugs.

note, im not very mechanically minded im more of a body work/audio lover so any ideas would be great thanks pplz

How does the car run,is it misfiring or whatever?Or is it just that theres not much change in the revs when the injector wiring connectors are removed from these two cylinders?

If you are definitely getting a strong blue/white spark from these two cylinders spark plug leads ,and the spark plugs are new.Try getting a long screwdriver, and with the engine idling, put the end of the screwdriver on the fuel injector body(plastic part) of the two cylinders ,one at a time, and then carefully put your ear up to the handle of the screwdriver,it should work like a stethoscope, you should be able to clearly hear the injector clicking away as it fires. This means its working. The only other thing I can think of is these two cylinders are next to eachother. It could be a blown or leaking head gasket between the two cylinders. Its rare on these motors ,but it can happen.A compression test would be the next step to check each cylinders compression. You can buy a compression tester yourself,or a mechanic should be able to do this fairly cheap.

im thinking it might be the head gasket did the screwdriver test you said to do just now, and there was a strong ticking sound coming through the handle, so guess ill have to wait till tomorrow to get a compression tester and see if thats the problem.

but if that passes do you have any other ideas on what could be going on, the motor is making a whining sound also, but that might be the power steering unit maybe? or cos its only running 4 cyls?

also the trans on it is effed, so cant really get the car to a mechanic till i replace that, and personally id rather 'try' fix the problem myself, after all the only way to learn is to do something yourself

Try swapping the connectors between 4 and 6, see if 4 will fire no 6 and vice versa. May just be a case of old/blocked injectors.
