Default VN V6 Fuel Press Regulator - replacement

I think this may have given up the ghost, I have a series 1, 1989. CPU is running code 44 (I have no O2 sensor, as have a NZ VN).

Question is - has anyone fitted a generic FPR, and if so, how have they plumbed it from the fuel rail? RIPCO price for a genuine replacement is about $300. Yikes. Can anyone recommend a modern substitute part? Is a bosch 3.0 bar FPR, part number 0 280 160 249. CHEERS!

cheers for your reply. So wot you're saying is that if there's no fuel coming from the FPR vacuum connector then the diaphraghm etc of the FPR is all OK and i shoudlnt nd to replace it?

I'm defo getting a code 44 - after extacting the codes myself by connecting those 2 ALDL wires together, and re-checking these codes about 3 times. There is also some kind of "dummy load" device connected in series in the violet wire which the O2 sensor would normally connect to - so my thinking is that the CPU is still getting some kind of reading from this device, as someone else confirmed 4 me that the CPU and the Memcal for the VN's between Oz & NZ (stock items) were the same.

I've replaced the MAP with a 2nd hand unit, i was going to try checking the FPR next and if no joy, then clean/replace the injectors next.

    cheers!

Cheers delcowizzid - I checked the Memcal number and this is where it gets weird. The CEL started liting up a while ago, and the car also died at completely random times. Took the car to the mechanic who ingeniously replaced the entire CPU as a "Fix". A bit later I doublechecked the coil pack and replaced it - this fixed the stalling problem - but the CEL was still showing. I then learned how to read the codes from the CPU - code 44, I've since heard this code isnt available on NZ VN Memcals. Just checked the memcal number - the CPU is one from a 3.8 V6 VP - I understand thats OK, the label on the outside of the CPU is marked "BAAM", the Memcal is a Delco, number is BAAM-0265. This is the wrong memcal for my VN V6 3.8 series 1 NZ manual? If so, should i try to get the original memcal back from the mechanic, or is now a gud time to upgrade to a better memcal? If so, how do I do this and at wot cost? Cheers for ur help!!!!

---delcohacking.net • View topic - Stock Holden Bin Files---
If you scroll down the web page in this link ,you will find all sorts of Aussie and NZ BIN files for the commodore memcals.(a bin file is just a copy of the file on the memcal chip.It can be burnt to or erased from the chip on the memcal.)It will give you an idea of all the different memcals that are available. There were a few different memcal files used for each model from VN onwards.
Most of them say so when they are for the export or NZ cars, the BAAM-0265 on this website says the following-(92, 3.8L V6 Auto 1227808 ECU For 92 mdl VP V6 Engine changes).Theres no mention of it being suitable for export or NZ cars.Theres this one above it in the list. Its BAAN,but says the exact same thing as the BAAM -3.8L V6 Auto 1227808 ECU For 92 mdl VP V6 Engine changes..I think maybe you could try this one if you can get hold of one.-BABU-3587 ($B1 91, 3.8L V6 Auto 1227808 ECU New Zealand, Export)

I'd like to thank everyone for their help with this - it turned out that you guys were onto it - the memcal was clearly for a 1992 VP V6 manual - but Ozzy spec - I went back to the mechanic (after trying to explain to him what the problem was, and having him look at me like I was a nutter) and dropped my original (1989 VN V6 NZ Spec) memcal back into the car computer (lucky he had the original CPU & Memcal still lying around). I reset everything and took the car for a spin: no CEL. Then did a code test and got Code 12!!! Awesome! The lesson here is for fcks sake check your own codes using the procedure on this site - dont trust anyone else to butcher your car when they dont know/care what they are doing......
