    Exclamation Arghhh helppp!!!! Error44

    Hey Guys,

    Ok this is the story.

I have a VP and when i drive it for the first hour or so everything is fine. but after that it starts chugging and finally after about 1.5 hours it dies! once the car cools back down then it starts like nothing happened. and same thing happens after an hour.

i bridged the ECU and got code 44 which i think means its running lean. i just bought a new o2 sensor and hopefully that would fix it. could it be anything else??

The workshop manual says this about testing for problems when getting error code 44 on a VP..."
(1)With the engine running at operating temperature, run the engine at 1600 to 1800 rpm for two minutes.
(2)Using the backprobing method, connect the positive lead of a voltmeter to the ECU wiring connector pin D7 and the negetive lead to ECU connector pin D6.If the voltage does not remain under 300 millivolts ,an intermittent fault is indicated.Check that all wiring connectors are clean and secure.
(3)With the voltmeter remaining connected to the ECU wiring connector, disconnect the oxygen sensor wiring connector and check the voltage with the engine idling. If the voltage is not 300-550 millivolts, check the circuit between the ECU connector pin D7 and the oxygen sensor connector for a short to earth. If no fault is found, renew the ECU.
If the voltage is 300-550 millivolts, check the circuits and connections between the oxygen sensor and the ECU connector pin D6 ,and the engine earth terminals for continuity. If no fault can be found, check the following possible causes-
    Low fuel pressure.
    Blocked injectors.
    Contaminated fuel.
Exhaust leaks ahead of the oxygen sensor.
Blocked oxygen sensor vent to atmosphere.
If the above components and conditions are satisfactory, renew the oxygen sensor.

my friend had a similar problem with his VP, only he could drive for about 30mins before it cut out. Apparently the car was turning itself off due to a faulty sensor, it was triggering the overheating safety shutoff mechanism...
