Hi all, got my hands on a cheap set of 17" International rims and tyres today, fitted them up and they were rubbing on the inside straight away, does anybody know how much I should expect to pay for a pair of spacers ? And I assume I could just get these from any reputable tyre dealer.
Spacers are illegal but if you do get them depending on how thick the spacers are you should probably order some longer wheel studs to be safe.
I got 10mm spacers and 16 longer studs from repco around 4-5 years ago, the spacers were around $20 a pair and the studs were about $4 each. Thats all from memory so it could be a bit off.
It was to put TRX rims on a 120Y coupe, thats why I only got 16 studs, you would need 20 of them.
Try a camber kit first man, i had 19inch sigs on my vq with ultra lows and didn't scrub even with a car load, it had a 4 point k mac kit in it, spaces are just bad news you need longer wheel studs, they are illegal if they are scrubbing that bad whats the tire wear going to be like ??? what size tires are they??
They are just 235/45/17 scrubbing on the inside, it sits at a relatively standard height to I assume, being 4" higher then the exes VQ running 225/50/16's, would the Nolathane kit do the same job as a K-mac kit, the wheel shop I spoke to a month or so ago about the spacers showed me what they had, they had their own studs on them and gave about a 20-25mm spacing,. If the Nolathane kit will do the job I might just get one of those, or talk to one of the local suspension experts and see what they think.
U need 25mm spacers to fit mags to ist run IRS commo's
I paid 100 a corner to get bolt on spacers made up at a tyre joint up here
Wat offset are the new rims, 25mm spacers got me from 28P to 43P with about 1cm gap on the inners from memory
Went back to the shop that told me about the spacers to begin with, they said "oh yeah, I kinda forgot to mention that they were illegal", I just replied "yeah that's ok, I kinda forgot to mention I won't be buying my next set of tyres from here" and walked out.
Is booked in on Monday to have a Super Pro 4 point camber kit done at one of the suspension specialists up here, including fitting and a wheel alignment, plus the parts it'll set me back $320, glad the 2 rear tyres weren't great as I have made a fair mess of one of the tyres from going for a quick drive.
Will let ya's know how it comes up on Monday after I fit them, oh and drop the front a little as the back is already lowered slightly and it looks a little odd, didn't look quite so bad with interceptors on.
Not sure what off set the wheels are, but they are the VT International rims.
VT inters are 48p offset. VP and VQ IRS is 28p oddset and VR/S IRS have 35p offset.
your can either go 10mm spacer and longer studs. I bought my studs 5 weeks ago and where $10 each with a nut.
25mm bolt on spacers (personal i think there ugly)
Or buy the VR/S trail arms and fit them to your standard diff n axles.
either way its a bit of dicking around and also I never used a camerber kit and ran stock shocks with King SSSL ultra lows in the bum
OK guys, got the camber fixed to day, looks much better but the left hand side is still rubbing when I hit a bump or go in and out of my driveway, do the VT SS rims have a different offset to the international rims or would they be the same, I also can't get the center caps on the front wheels to stay on even when I remove the bearing caps, they still hit on the hub boltI might look at swapping for VT SS rims if that is going to be easier, the ex only has 16's but they fit heaps more comfortably
You probably don't want to hear it but you should have fitted the camber kit to VR/VS arms and installed them. Would be cheap as from the wreckers and would solve the problem in a safe way. That's what's on my VQ.
your only safe option is a camber kit or raising your car a little as its obviously lowered to cause 17s to rub with irs you obviously have got a decent camber angle i had vtss 17s on my vr with irs and they didnt scrape i also had other 17s on it and they didnt scrape either, try avoid spacers as they put too much pressure (all the load) on your studs not the centre of the hub which is designed to take the load studs have been known to snap off with spacers especially with those 25mm hub adapters theyre cheap alloy crap and i wouldnt trust them at all i know ive used them before.

decided to buy slightly narrower tyres, now running 225/45/17's on all 4, plenty of room now, will think about the vr arm upgrade next time around, now the only real problem I have is trying to get the centre caps to fit on the front wheel, coz it looks absolutely shitful seeing the bearing cap where the centres should be
I have 5mm Spacers on my VP Calais running 235 wide 19" Sigs..
The best, and safest thing to do with the VQ/VP IRS is to convert to VS IRS (trailing arms) as the hubs are extended out.
Search it on the "competitors" - Street Commodores forum.. It's covered there.
dude all VT wheels are the smae 48P offset, look on the inside of you wheels and its marked in there
I've found it doesn't matter how heigh the cars is, a VP on super lows which are about the same height as FE2 will still rub. my 100% stock as a rock VP International rubs VT wheels at standard height.
As i said there 3 options and I think the camber kit does F*CK ALL and they'll still rub
What spacers are we talking about? The ones that resemble a cd just alot bigger with holes for the wheel nuts or the spacer that actually bolts up to the existing hub and has it's own wheel nuts, I have the bolt on type and have never had a problem?
