Gday I just brought a cheap vn wagon 1989 series 1 (i think) to drive to work with a rwc, It has the rwc ticket anyway the car yard is 3 ks from my house at most so ive driven it maybe 6 ks tops the demister fan stopped working after 2 ks then I got home and noticed the master cylinder is leaking badly and the windscreen that they put in is leaking ok you get what you pay for and i didnt pay much but the master cylinder leaking and calling that rwc I paid the car yard $1750 for the car then he got it rwc and charged me $2839 all up the car has reg till June next year.
What is the most likely cause of the demister / heater/ ac fan not working?
I'm about to go back and see what the car yard will do for me.
The car needs to be roadworthy for up to 30 days pretty certain it's there legal requirement to fix the rwc issues and they are both rwc issues if they don't want a bar of it I'm pretty sure you can get your money back also. Good luck
I just spoke to them I nothings gunna happen until Monday unfortunately for me but think they ll fix the brakes and the fan I dont think i should be driving it the way it is an as I'm all so too lazy to fix it why i brought another dunger (it only has to get me to work until feburay as I also hate working for nothing hopefully they can sort it for another hundred or 2 (not that that buys much labour or a real mechanic can work lots faster than me) what a moral of a game old dungers would be .Hopefully we stay friends.
Any body able to post a wiring diagram of how the vn fans wired?
cheers
The cause of the fan not working could be fuse, wiring or rheostat. The rheostat (the most likely cause) is located under the valance panel (in the engine compartment immediately under the lower part of the windscreen) which is accesible once numerous retaining clips have been removed. As for the brakes, DO NOT drive it until they have been repaired and are faultless. No idea which state you are in. Suggest you consult with your Consumer Affairs office, they should be able to advise you regarding the law concerning secondhand vehicles and delaer responsibility etc.
what state are you in??
If your in Vic, my advise would be to take it for a rwc at a different garage, ask them to go over it very carefully, then go back to the place you bought it from and show them the fail list if they dont fix everything it failed on for free tell them you are going to vic roads and tell them the problems that they sold you a car with a shoddy rwc
I sure as hell would not be paying to have the problems fixed after the amount you have paid for a VN!
For almost 3000 that car should be in much better condition i bought my 92 vp wagon for 1500 and what needed fixing was very minor compared to yours mainly just a new exhaust and a couple of bushes. So defenitely agree with the above poster take it to another mechanic and ask them to rwc it for you then take it back to the car yard.
Some caryards will write their own RWC to sell cars quickly and for more profit without actually fixing what needs to be done

yeah the joys of buying used cars they fixed most of my whines except the heater fan thats a rwc item isnt it?
the morgal used car salesman has bailed and put it on the mechanic that did the rwc if I where to dog the mechanic how would i go about it (not that I will thinking I might throw a couple of bricks over the car yards fence) what happens when they get caught doing dodgies ? After Tom the used car salesman tells me the brake fluid was just splashed over from when they test it (the mechanic had put another 1 on).
Are these wheel nuts (back wheel) expectable that's how 1 wheel is.

Yes indeed, you did buy a dunger......
Mate seriously find a good mechanic shop with a genuine mechanic for peice of mind and Safty of you and your family pay the 110 for a proper road worthy inspection and with the pink sheet Vic roads rejection copy go back to the dodgy mechanic shop and nicely demand that they fix the vehicle or you will go to consumer affairs, they don't take lightly to bodgy unroadworthy vehicles there is even a lemon period that you can get your money back on for the bodgy vehicle. There is big fines and loss of rwc for this, don't let them get away with it or they will do it time and time again, and yes them wheel nuts are not good they are not mag wheel nuts, mag wheel nuts are much skinnier and have a more tapered end for a nice snug fit into the alloy rim. If be going over them wheel nuts with the braker bar, good luck
