Hi all,
just joined and would like to say hi to all here. We have just acquired a 1991 VN Commodore that is labelled as Toyota Lexen.
Our mechanic says that everything is commodore but was just wondering if there were any major differences.
According to our insurance company, this is the "Newport" version as it has cruise control, A\C, Power windows. They also said that the 1991 Lexen only came out in Automatic but this one is 5 speed manual, so someone has changed it over at some time.
It is a really nice looking car with full Group A body kit including side skirts, front and rear skirts, large rear spoiler and big lump on bonnet. I will post some pics this week.
Any info on the Newport would be appreciated.

from what i understand it is badge engineering only, which means its all just cosmetic changes from the holden.
You've got the equivilant of a Calais if it's a Newport. The only differences were cosmetic, slightly different cloth patterning, badging, and if it's a VN lexcen (T1 I think?) they had slightly different taillights and the indicators at the front were orange from factory. It was part of the button car plan, never understood it, something to do with the export Market, I know Holden rebadged the camry as the Apollo and the corolla as the nova for a period of time, I think there was also a Nissan that was rebadged. Lexcens, although identical to commodores never sold well because the general public thought it was Toyota ripping off Australian cars. Lol. Lexcen came in CSi, VXi, and Newport, which I believe were Executive, Berlina and Calais (although I put VXi rear seats in my car and they look identical to Calais, so maybe a little better than Berlina).
