is it possible to repair a trip meter and odometer? if so what price do i look at and can i do it myself.
Cost: About $10.00
Installation: Free with common sense.
If the OD is not turning, your cog has gone.. common problem in the 17+ year old commodores.
Contact "Fluffydog" on ebay & mention Stealthprince3000 pointed you to him.
Instrument Cluster Odometer Cog
These cog's are solid brass and will not wear out.
Cheers

$10 postage = $20 anyone got one closer like south of the river in perth(armadale and kelmscot are good for me)
Considering genuine cogs & fix kits are retailing at $49.95
Never Look Back
i'm not saying its not a good deal i just dont want to pay 10 for postage they look like they would fit in a envolope for 25c or 45c whatever it is now.
It could also be the plastic mounting that the ODO motor connects to. This broke on mine and left the motor hanging lose. I just installed longer screws.
go down to your local pull it yourself wrecker and rip one apart and steal the silly little cog if its only a lvl 1 dash they wont even care either that or show them the cog and they go ahhhhh $1 lol if you find it hard to hide a cog the size of a 5 cent coin

i'm in brissie and purchased one of fluffydogs cogs.
Its cost me just under 20 dollars sent by registered.
IMO i thought the cost was well worth it considering the workmanship of the solid brass item.
I have installed it and it works perfectly and i'm very pleased.
the heavier brass dosent make it less accurate?
not that i have noticed, the other car registers the same mileage.
Only one tooth was broken off mine and it wouldnt work
I got a cog (tiny little thing) from Able Instrument Service, 10-12 Babdoyle st Loganholme, 07 38011232, $11.00...They posted it to me for $1.00..
Have just put it all back together and it works fine....thank goodness for this forum....
I've read the posts on fixing cogs in odometers, but can anyone explain how I get to the thing to fix it? I have a VP.
I have a VN and the Odo stopped working a few years ago. I also have a VP wagon which has become a donor car for the VN, swapped the dash about a week ago, odo worked for 300 odd km's and now it doesnt turn either!! is it likely to be 1 of these cogs spoken of, or something else??
My guess it is one of those cogs. I will post a pic of my busted one. I can't find anyone who wants to sell one to me although they are more than happy to fix it for me for $$$Originally Posted by venerableChicken

Here is a pic below of the beige coloured cog that has the missing teeth (sits on top of the grey one which looks alright to me) This is the best I can do pic wise as it isn't my camera. Is this the same one as yours? Thanks for supplying the phone number, I'm from NSW but if they can post the part to me I'll be happy. I will give them a buzz tomorrow.Originally Posted by markc3012

I need one of these "cogs" myself. Can anyone here still supply me with one? Or does anyone know where I can get one in Perth? Thanks
