Hi all, after removing the throttol body on my S1 VN to do a thermostat ive developed a problem, it has a very rough idel on start up for about 15 secconds untill the engine check light comes up (error code 13), so i removed the oxygen sensor and gave it a clean, but the problem is still there, the problem comes and goes while driving aswell, with the throtoll cutting in and out intermittently
Anyone have any recomondations

If this only happened after removing the throttle body you either haven't connected something properly or it needs a reset. Disconnect the battery for 10 seconds, reconnect then start the car and rev to 2000rpm for 10 seconds.
might be the idle control solenoid on TB needs resetting

What did you clean the O2 sensor with as some solvents etc can contaminate and stuff them. Also when you took the throttle body off did you clean it at all? Maybe you dis lodged some gunk and it has got into the IAC or it's ports?
When you say that it comes and goes while driving do you mean the engine runs rough while the car is moving and the throttle off idle or only if stop and idle it?
I diddnt give the tb a clean, only wiped put a bit of oil and I used a butane torch to clean the carbon off the sensor, the coming and going of the problem is really only when I accelerate but it seems worse coming out of corners in 1st (5 speed) it is also seems to only be running on 4cyls when the problem occurs, also how would I go about testing the IAC?
Thanks,
Greg

The o2 sensor can not make the car miss
If u have checked all the other suggestions
An still no good
It could be a dieing cas or coil packs
CHEV badges Australia says no

The O2 sensor won't cause your problem, it has to be either the TPS or the IAC, as they are the only things that have been touched when you removed the TB. Are there any vacuum leaks around the TB?
Ok then no worries, I haven't noticed any vacume leaks so I'll chuck the new o2 sensor in and put on the spare coil packs when i get home on friday hopefully and see if it fixes the problem, as for the cas I don't think it woluld be that as I only replaced it when I bought the car 3 months ago
Thanks,
Greg

To test the IAC I seem to recall reading that you remove it from the throttle body and turn the ignition on and this shoudl make the valve go up and down a few times.
These were revised in later models to improve the idle.
The throttle position snesor gives the ECU an indication of both the position of the throttle and the rate of change. It is a variable resistor so you just have to check it's resistance and that the resistance changes in a linear relationship with position.
dont power up the iac when out of the TB or it will fly to peices all over the show

Did you clean off the old gasket and use a new gasket when replacing the TB?
Did the IAC and TPS connectors click in properly?
I don't have access to a series 1 manifold, but are there any connectors that may have come disconnected?

Yea mate I cleaned off the old gasket but It was after shop hours so I used gasket goo instead, and yes there Is 2 electrical connections and a few vacuum lines aswell and everything seems to be connected fine and it dosent sound like it is sucking air from where I made the gasket
Thanks

did you say you oiled the TB . TPS sensor may have got oil in it will make it do funny things.and did your gasket goo smell like salt and vinigar chips if so it will kill O2 sensors.

Na mate there was some oil in the in the throttle body when I tool it off the plenum so I just wiped it away, I have a spare motor sitting at home so is changing The coilpacks dosent fix the problem I'll change tb's and see were that gets me
Thanks for all the help guys, I'll keep you posted on how I go
