hi all. looking for some advice... for some reason my 93 vp has started playing up out of no where. the car starts and idles fine in all gears. also revs up with no problem but as soon as i accelerate in either drive or reverse the car splutters and coughs... runs like crap. ive checked the spark in the leads and plugs but it all seems fine.. i cant work it out so can anyone help me out with some info please?? cheers
could be fuel related, do uno when fuel filter was last changed?
thanks for your replies guys ill check them all out now.... ill keep ya's posted....
ill be checking the fuel filter/replace it when i find some ramps. as for the leads, how do i check the resistance? they are all in good cond. no burns or holes or aanything... ill replace them anyway. cheers
still the same problem..... maybe a match in the tank would help.....
a stuffed fuel pump
cheers mate.... ill check that too
its enough to keep the car idling, but cannot cope with the demand for more fuel, hence the spluttering
To check the leads you take them off and use a multimeter measure their resistance, there is a maximum resistance allowable for both the short and long leads. I can't recall off hand what they are.
Just to clarify the car splutters and coughs only while your accelerating or does it do it at constant speeds? If it's just while accelerating check your throttle position sensor and the plug on it's wiring.
The TPS also has a resistance range and a set rate of change of resistance and these must be in spec.
If you have changed the leads and fuel filter and fuel pump and the TPS is OK then you will need to start looking at the coil packs, DFI and the associated wiring/plugs etc.
havent one the fuel pump yet..... but ill look into that.... thanks for the advice guys...
èverthing is all good now guys... thanks for the help...
so was fuel pump?
id say so..... id everything and now it runs smoother than before... cheers for your help mate.
i had the same problem,my fuel pump died and i got it fixed,i was fine for a day or two till it started aging so i then changed my fuel regulator, and i aint had a problem, its has now been a month
now i seem to hae a problem with the transmission..... i have to rev it around 3000rpm to move in reverse(slowly) and it stays in first longer than its ment to(still changes to second)...... could this be the torque convertor is stuffed or just the bands need tightning????? or do i need another box??
might sound a bit obvious but check your autotrans fluid. It needs fluid to move anywhere, so it might be low, hence not moving anywhere in a hurry
the fluid level was dine when the car is cold. but i checked it when i let it run for a bit and it was real low so i topped it up and it now runs sweet lol... my mistake...
Yeah have to check the trans levels while the car is running, best to run it thru the gears before u check too.
I must check mine, been over 3yrs since i did a service
