    Default question about my vp?

hi all. looking for some advice... for some reason my 93 vp has started playing up out of no where. the car starts and idles fine in all gears. also revs up with no problem but as soon as i accelerate in either drive or reverse the car splutters and coughs... runs like crap. ive checked the spark in the leads and plugs but it all seems fine.. i cant work it out so can anyone help me out with some info please?? cheers

Check the spark plug lead resistance. I had a similar issue and a lead was open circuit, it only broke down under load.

its enough to keep the car idling, but cannot cope with the demand for more fuel, hence the spluttering

To check the leads you take them off and use a multimeter measure their resistance, there is a maximum resistance allowable for both the short and long leads. I can't recall off hand what they are.

Just to clarify the car splutters and coughs only while your accelerating or does it do it at constant speeds? If it's just while accelerating check your throttle position sensor and the plug on it's wiring.
The TPS also has a resistance range and a set rate of change of resistance and these must be in spec.
If you have changed the leads and fuel filter and fuel pump and the TPS is OK then you will need to start looking at the coil packs, DFI and the associated wiring/plugs etc.

now i seem to hae a problem with the transmission..... i have to rev it around 3000rpm to move in reverse(slowly) and it stays in first longer than its ment to(still changes to second)...... could this be the torque convertor is stuffed or just the bands need tightning????? or do i need another box??

might sound a bit obvious but check your autotrans fluid. It needs fluid to move anywhere, so it might be low, hence not moving anywhere in a hurry

Yeah have to check the trans levels while the car is running, best to run it thru the gears before u check too.

I must check mine, been over 3yrs since i did a service
