I was just wondering if anyone around here has put a transmission cooler on a manual, or if it's even possible, because I took the car for a very long drive through the mountains last night, probably about 20 minutes worth, and by the end of it, there was just a slight rattle in the gearbox which led me to believe that the gearbox oil was slightly warmer than optimum and was a bit thinner than I'd hope.
The thing is, after 5 minutes or just idling down and 10 minutes or so with the car off, when I started back up again, it was perfect.
How long has it been since you changed the gearbox oil? Might be time.
A manual gearbox doesn't run a pump so you can't fit a cooler unless you have an external pump. Running an external pump would also pressurize the gearbox a bit and you may start having leaking issues. Oil supply would be an issue too, gearbox oil is fairly thick so moving it around through a pump and a cooler would be a problem.
Yes, it is possible.
You need 2 ports on the box, one in, one out, a pump a heat exchanger and somewhere to mount it.
I've seen small thermo fans on heat exchangers mounted parallel to the floor, they work well.
The t5's run ATF DexIII so its thin enough to have a small pump and run it through a cooler. Only other thing is to run a slightly thicker oil and see how that goes.
