have you done any recent work on your car? particularly around the intake/throttle body? or has it just come up out of nowhere mate?

Id try removing the belt and then starting the car to see if the noise goes away.If it does, then its gonna be either the water pump, the AC compressor, the power steering pump,or the tensioner pulley bearing or alternator bearings. It wont hurt to start the engine and run it with no belt, but for no longer than 1 minute.Whilst the belt is off,and with the engine off, turn the pulleys etc by hand, feel for roughness and looseness in the bearings of the various belt driven components,if any roughness or loose or noisy bearings are found, its probably best to replace the complete part or just replace the faulty parts bearings if possible, like the tensioner pulley bearing,I paid $7 for a new bearing a few months ago at a bearing place. It was making a winding noise similar to what you have described.

its definitly the ac compresser shes making all sorts of noises when you spin it, but the tensioner
pully bearing will need replacing aswell do you know if i can just bypass the ac compresser with a shorter belt?

Yes you can bypass it with a non AC type belt,I had trouble finding the non AC belt when I bypassed the AC compressor on my VS,in the end I ordered it through holden for around $30 .I ended up fitting a new compressor to get the AC working again for the summer.Same problem as you,the old compressor was as noisy as hell.
