Timing Chain

I am trying to diagnose a new noise in the car, and I fear it may be the timing chain.

I have had a noise for the last 25k (vn done 238k), which sounds like a chain rattling slightly. It can only be heard when accelerating, so I am guessing only under load. The thing is it sounds like it is coming from the auto tranny, not the engine.

That noise aside, my baby has just started to give a small, uneven, rattle from what sounds like the front of the engine. There seems to be no consistency to when the rattle happens, ie: rattle.....rattle rattle.....rattle........................rattle... ............rattle..rattle etc.

I am really hoping its not internal engine issues.

Any help on where to start is much appreciated.

The timing chain might need tensioning.
