i have 18s on my car which are 235 but it still arks em up in the dry with full tread and i cant really darg ppl does it 2 with ppl in the car why is that?
hard compound? old rubber, high gear ratio? i had a mate that just bought a vy 6cyl and he got sick of it smokn off the start, and had 19" rims and $1500 a pop tires fitted- it dont spin no more!
really shit tyres
before you do anything that costs $, make sure they're inflated to the correct pressure. that can oft be a cause of spinning
my tyres are federal 595 supersteels they are pretty good
Not good enough obviously![]()
Look Who's Torque-ing ...
My federals are shite, wear down in about 1,000kms.
omg federal ..... who told you they are good?? slap them and then ask them what tyres THEY have on THEIR car. hahhaha
qualified tyre fitter here .... federal are about as good as sava
whats the best tyre then u would recomend and that i wont have 2 pay a fourtune for? the car corners way better and is more responsive and is good caining along in the wet they havent worn down that much at all really
yerr its kinda hard to get a "good" cheap tyre....the best and cheapest "good tyre i found was the bridgestone potenza G3. doesnt spin my ute's wheels in a straight line but are like $275 a tyre for 17/235/45 profile so wouodnt be much more for 18's
when it comes to tyres .. you really do get what you pay for
its not like furniture where a 1,000 cabinet that costs 50 bucks to make and falls apart with a fart on it.
dunlop potenza are a reasonable tyre compared to price, but IMHO .. i sold everybody i could on eagle F1's .. we had them on the work ute, (beaurepaires' lowered BA xr6 ute with 18" avensis mags) and no matter the flogging i gave it (constantly when out of sight of the office) they held massive grip and i could take the tightest corners without fear
i suppose your right there sos......its like buyin seconds to put on your rims if you want cheap tyres
omg .. i cant believe people would ever want to put retreads on their car.
a tyre is the only thing that is ever in any contact with the road while driving.
its one piece of rubber filled with nothing but compressed air... and if thats not DANGEROUS ENOUGH.. it gets driven down to nothing and then they tuf a new layer of rubber over the top and put it back on cars.
who the hell knows how many gutters that tyre has hit? who knows how many burnouts? do people know the statistical likelihood of tread separation on retreads??? they're LETHAL AWFUL DISGUSTING HORRIBLE NASTY pieces of work and now i want to start a campaign and get signatures and stuff and get RETREADS BANNED!!!!![]()

No offence sos but just cause you put em on a rim dont mean shit. I have em on my car and have no worries wat so ever. They have been put thru indipendant testing and came out above alot of more expensive tires. Dont always believe what the commision based salesmen at work tell ya.Originally Posted by s0sage
As for the grip issue, check PSI in em, could be old tire, hard compound, camber/castor issues, also remember your suspension plays a role in how the tires grip.......

im new to this forum, but in reply i was told that bigger isnt always better
something to do with engineers spending time setting the car up such as suspension to run on whatever size they come out with. i put 17" rims on my vp ss anyway with cheap tyres noticed a big gain with traction for the first week then there was no differance think it was just new tyres and stuff. i didnt notice any handling differances either except the suspension being more solid and feeling more bumps etc.
Yeah everything is running smooth and pressure is right, but another thing don't vn's ark em up really easy anyway? and are real light in the rear end?
maybe you should just consider being a little lighter on the right foot?? you'd save a bundle on petrol!
an yeah vn's especially series 1's are very prone to a rough/noisy idle and spine jarring launches off the line. running your car with a full tank of fuel as much as you can is just about the only way to increase the weight in the rear without totally killing your fuel economy ..
(heavy cars are guzzling cars)
yeah it is a series 1 its pretty quiet apart from the exhaust, its maybe just 1 of those things that happen im sur im not the only 1 this happens 2
Wouldnt say they 'ark' up I would go so far as to say they are a slug!!
