    Default timing chain

    when should the timing chain be replaced in a vp v6. mine has done 120 000 kms and i like to avoid unnessary problems caused by lack of maitainance so if it should have been changed by now pls let me know.

    ask your mechanic next service. It may need re-tensioning or replacing. Depends on the engine.

    i had a problem with mine back when i had the vn, had 200000 though, but its a big and expensive job, i got rid of the car before i changed it, but yeah ask a mechainic

    400000+ no change noise typical from tenion pully grease

    I think that is for timing belts. Not for timing chains. Mine is giving me the shits. I am sick of hearing it. My motor has done 305,000 or so km.

    by timing belt i think he means fan belt (serpetine belt)

    commodores dont have timing belts, only chains except oldschool 202's they had steel hypoid gears. not sure on the alloytech though. timing chains arent a servicable item, you only replace it when its noisey. if its not broken dont fix it.

    VN V6s use a timing chain, I think mostly of the overhead cam motors use an actual belt, like I know the VL engines use a belt.

    mines done 225000 kms, and not had it replaced, or even tightened.
