G'day everyone , new guy here...
I have a '92 V6 VP 6 seater (column shift) wagon that I just blew the engine in (the trans was also sad ). Bought a bomb V6 '93 VR wagon with a good engine and (non column shift) transmission for $300.00, as I needed to get to work. Is this an easy swap? I am thinking it should be, though do I have to change the computer also? I am guessing PWR/Econ function on the tranny isn't part of the computer and will just require wiring in to power it?
I have done a few transplants (some requiring mods) in the past, though all on carby cars with no computers. Anything more than changing the engine loom and the computer (and the other side of the computer would have to be plug in affair) the conversion might not be worth it for me.
Thanks
Adrian
As the VR trans is electronically controlled, and the VP trans is kickdown cable controlled (full hydraulic). You'd probably need to put the VR ecu into the VP. Would work out simpler anyway as you're putting in the VR engine too. Whereas if you kept the VP ecu (if it is possible), you'd have to have the memcal reprogrammed to suit the different trans and motor.
Going from column shift to floor shift, i have absolutely no idea.
Thanks for that Bizmark. I was thinking it should be easy enough. I am not sure about the tranny either, the only reason I mentioned it, I read somewhere that the shift mechanism is on the opposite side on a column shift. Unfortunately I don't have the VP here to check against a T-bar model, though either way I am sure it is something I can overcome.
The VR transmission wont work unless you use the VR ECU and wiring etc.The VR engine should bolt straight up to the VP transmission though.
