hey there everyone,
i got defected... lol
uhm, wondering if my seatbelts will be fine in my VIS on tuesday, all retract good except the drivers one but when you pull it harshly like you would in an accident it locks very good just VERY slow to retract in general.
Any Ideas>

It may get knocked back. But try pulling it slowly all the way out, then let it retract while holding tension on the belt. The belt may just be wound a bit wonky on the spool slowing it down.
I'll bet the belt is ok but filthy. It's amazing how much dirt, sweat and body oil builds up on the belts, especially the driver's belt, and this acts as a "brake" and slows the retraction down dramatically. I found this was the case with my VR years ago. The solution is to remove the belt from the car, pull the belt out fully and jam it open with something like a socket placed into the mouth of the retractor. Then wash the belt thoroughly in a strong mix of water and clothes washing liquid in a large basin such as the laundry tub. Put the plug in the basin, keep the inertia reel out of the water and "squelch" the belt thoroughly for its full open length. You will be amazed at how black the water will turn. That's the crap that has built up on the belt over years of use. Also pay attention to the top mounting bracket which the belt feeds through, the rubbish also accumulates there and this is the actual sticking point which slows the belt passing through. Once you've finished cleaning and rinsing the belt, hang it out to dry, keeping it fully extended. Once it's dried out completely and back in the car, I think you will be happy with the way the belt works. It's also worth doing on the passenger belt as well.
