    Default ECU fail-safe mode?

    Hey guys.

    Last time my car didnt start i took it to a local mechanic that charged me 160 to tell me the car had reset the ECU into Fail-Safe mode. Can anyone explain what this means? My car is not starting again, so im wondering if i have a similar problem, and wanted toknow if theres anyway i can reset the ecu or run a test on it.. ANyone local in Christchurch, New Zealand have on eof these cables?

    the easy way to reset the ECU is to disconect the battery and give it 5 mins and the your all good the car will run shit for a while and then it will re learn all the parameters and you should be sweet.

    Only the fail safe I am aware of his "limp mode" Where the ecu ignores all the sensors. So if you have a faulty sensor somewhere, you can "limp" the car home.

    The car usually only jumps into "limp home mode" if it has sensed something has gone very wrong. If you reset your computer, & it comes back either make/buy an ALDL cable, or take it to a mechanic who has a TECH 1
