hi all ,
need help!! Put new extractors on v6 vp after headder cracked now wont run properly ?
back fires coughs and splutters when under load feels like it wants to go but just cant revs and no go?
idles great and free revs fine.
checked sparks & plugs leads extractor bolts all good
any ideas ?
oxygen sensor?
no the sensor is back on !!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks i will try that i will get a new one !
The oxygen sensor wont cause it to run crook and misfire etc, even if its not working at all. Were the plug leads removed when you did the manifold.Id check to make sure they are on the right cylinder numbers. If they are silicon type plug leads, they can be easily broken if pulled too hard whilst removing them from the plugs or getting them kinked tightly, when I say broken,I mean it can break the carbon core inside the lead which makes the lead useless under load,it will just cause a misfire under load or power. It really doesnt take much force to break the carbon core, especially if they are a bit old.Ive done it a couple of times over the years..
shall get new leads thanks
Agreed. This occurred with an old Toymota my mum used to own. Idled fine but as soon as a load was put on it, it misfired until the it was no longer accelerating then the misfire disappeared. Swapped out the leads and it ran as well as could be expected. Also check that the spark plug leads are firmly seated as there may be enough contact for idle operations but not for loaded operation.
replaced the leads . but still back firing under load ?
could it be one of the coil packs?
leads on in the correct order,, kinda of an obvious thing but is something that i have done before when i was in a rush..

yeah think so
what is the firing order can you help?
I had the same thought about plugs leads in wrong order when I read the first post. It is really easy to get one wrong double and triple check. The cylinder no.s run front to back passenger side 1, 3, 5 and Driver side front to back 2, 4, 6. My coil packs are numbered. so it is easy to check. Let me know if your coil packs aren't numbered and I can help out with that info. I guess it is possible that your coil packs have been replaced/swapped around and could be misleading. Check another commodore if unsure
replaced & checked leads are all on in the right order as long as the coil packs are in the right order ( there numberd ) checked coil packs with multi meter all good.
replaced o2 sensor
STILL COUGHING AND SPLUTTERING UNDER LOAD WHEN WARM?
PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What suburb of Canberra are you in? I'm over at Jerra if you want someone to look it over for you.

The firing order for the V6 is 1 6 5 4 3 2. If the plugs and leads are all ok,and you have the firing order right, then next Id be testing the coils, one at a time, by fitting a known working coil to where each of your coils are, and driving it each time to see if it makes any difference. These coils can sometimes show up ok when tested with a multimeter, but still cause misfiring and breaking down under load.Ive been caught out like this before with these coils.I now keep a new spare coil, just for testing purposes. Also if you find that if one coil is faulty, then its best to replace all 3 coils with either genuine holden coils, or a good brand aftermarket coil like MSD.I know there are "cheapie" coils available, but Id stay away from them,Ive seen a few problems caused by cheaps--t coils,so sometimes they dont work out cheaper in the long run at all..

sorry been away. still havent fixed the problem but the only thing i havent changed is the coil packs so i will let you know of the out come as soon as i can afford to replace them ?
i have notice u have said when warm if that is only when it dose it try replacing the cool temp senser under the tb that can cause problems like ur haven
Got 1 new coil pac. been swaping and changing to see if it is just a nackerd coil pack ihas run heaps better so as soon as i can i will keep replacing 1 by 1 .
still a bit of back firing under load when warm .
Like to Thank all who helped figure out the problem with my VP Berlina ended up being the coil packs !
runs like a dream now.
so thanks again to all who helped ....
