I am planning on doing a long trip soon with a full load in the wagon. Is there anything I should get checked before going besides brakes and tyres? I want a safe trip.
fuel, air and trans-cooler filter, lines and top and bottom hoses for stiffness
Thanks Boona I just did my air filter and I have a new fuel filter waiting to be put in. Will make sure i check all my hoses too.
yeah last thing you want is a split hose out the middle of no where![]()

make sure your check your trans and engine oil too, maybe even replce them just to be safe your engine will be doing allot of runningon constant hot oil, i drive 30 mins to work and back each day so i check mine every 3 weeks or more, but ialso have a ver very very slow sump leack, also check your spairive palled it out to check once nad it was flat, valve just vent to the shit for some reason
Yeah I was planning on doing an oil change before I go as that is easy enough to do myself. I check all my fluids once a week.
oh and take a spare alternator belt because they have a habit of snapping after long trips
spare tire pumped, jack and spanner, wiper blades, lights
Perhaps a wheel alignment/balance before your trip.
Also:
Check ALL fluids/oil levels - transmission, engine, brakes, coolant, wiper detergent stuff.
Make sure all of your lights, indicators work etc.
Ensure your tyres have the correct pressures.
Check the other obvious things - make sure none of your hoses look sus.
Make sure your spare wheel/tyre is actually in the car and is ready for use, along with the jack etc that you'll need to put it on.
Belt up and enjoy your trip!
don't forget some fuses and globes
Illegitimi Non Carborundum
Wiper fluid reservoir- make sure it's got cleaner in it and not just water!
Check your battery and coolant.
Clea you glass.
Tyre pressures
Spare Globes, Belts and Hoses. A 2 Lt Bottle of water in the boot.
Check before you leave- indicators, wipers, horn, lights, hazards
Most importantly get some sleep before you leave and stop when you feeltired. Keep upyour fluids but don't over eat- you'll get tired easily.
Thank-you everyone for your responses I will now make up a list of all your suggestions and work through it before I leave.
oh and make sure you have a wheel brace that fits and a jack that works.
