    Default What fuse does what?

    Hey everyone,

My car overheated today while sitting in the road works. thought it could be a fuse as I thought the fan might not be kicking on. so I had a look at the fuse box under the dash and I have no idea what fuse does what, I can't find the guide anywhere. Can you tell me what fuse does what?

On the drop down panel that you have to unclip to reach the fuses, there should be a diagram showing which fuse does what, and what its rating is.

I think the fuse and relay for the thermo fan is in the fuse block under the bonnet.

yep .. the main engine fan relay is in the engine bay and it sits under the black cover just behind your battery.

    BUT

in the temporary - short term - quick fix - non-permanent - get yourself to an auto elec asap - solution, just turn your airconditioner on when you car begins to overheat .. if it really is the fan failure in coming on, this will cause the fan to turn on no matter what the temperature. I STRESS TEMPORARY SOLUTION.

also dont assume its the fan failure (unless your cars nine tenths of the way up the gauge and the fan aint on of course)

number one thing to do here is to check your coolant levels and oil levels. if these are too low, your gonna burn your motor out regardless if you have a fan or not.

Thanks for the posts and pic.

Well its not the Fan or the coolant/oil levels. Could it be water pump or thermostat or even grud in the radiator? All the fuses are fine, even the ones under the bonnet. The only reason I thought it might be a fuse or something like that is the fan for the a/c isn't working execpt on number 4.

if your not losing water out of the system ... i doubt its your water pump.

cant actually think off the top of my head a situation where a water pump had stopped working on me without wearing that bottom plate through....
but who knows? ive been a lot more wrong about much simpler things ..

    im just a s0sage ..

So its the A/C fan thats not working? If it only works on 4 then your suspect is most likely the resistor thats sits under the wiper motor ledge.

If its the radiator fan is suspected of not working try bridging the A & B pins on the engine diagnosis connector.
