Currently looking at a rather cheap vn ss on the net and assuming the price i know there is going to be issues and the engine is at 200k so i rebuild probably wont be out of the question just querying on what the average rebuild costs.
I've driven fast cars I've done stupid shit in them each time i seem to come out on top i love you guardian angel
vp ss 3 months to go
minmum $2500 up to 4 grand for a somewhat stock rebuild with decent power adders.

Reading another thread about doing the timing chains on a VE V6.
Alloytec Timing Chains replacement
Completely doing up a 5 litre seems dirt cheap by comparison.
Economy doesn't start and finish at the petrol pump, that's for sure.
Stock 5 litre rebuild kit including pistons is $780 ring repco, I got a quote today from a local engine reconditioner for $3200 I said if I buy a crane/crow cam package can you throw it in with it, its no extra charge! so that leaves me some free coin to get the heads ported and polished.
i went all brand new everthing.... pistons, rings, performance cam, adn just all the incidental parts... literally.. 1800 in parts.... dont forget.. fuel pump, injectors, all the nuts n bolts... mines built for future power and longetivity
If the 304 has been looked after there may not be need for rebuild for another 100-200,000 k's. My 304 has done 230,00 k's now still pulls like it did 100,000 ago.
Of course a rebuild lets you add power mods, flat top pistons, cam, port heads etc...
If you can do the labour yourself you'll save heaps but you still need an engineering shop to hone the bores, balance, skim heads, ports etc...
There's always PAVTEK, 355 build costs about $6500.
