    Default Are extractors worth it?

I've never had extractors put on any car I have owned. Do you actually notice much of a difference?

The things I mostly noticed when I fitted pacemakers to my ecotec was they made the fuel economy better, and the engine ran cooler,1 mark lower on the temp gauge...

Mine would have nearly paid for themselves over the last couple of years just from the fuel savings..

Do you have any proof that they save you petrol did you have a tune done after install. Fuel economy savings would be minimal with extractors

The proof is in the km I can get from a certain amount of fuel, and I got a good noticable difference in fuel economy after they were fitted, and thats with the original tune. Also I only use 98 octane fuel...

Its well known that extractors give a better fuel economy and help the engine breath better.
As stated above...depending on the kms you do they could pay for themselves in a pretty short time..

ps...damn these links below all the posts are annoying !!!lololol

I do do a fair few km's and I'm planning on having the car a view years because its in top nik and has done low km's so I guess they would pay for themselves soon enough. Do you notice much in way of performance or is it just about fuel economy and engine temp?

Maybe a little bit more performance at higher revs, but I found there was no difference in performance down low really...I didnt fit mine for any performance or economy gains in particular,I fitted mine because my passenger side standard manifold kept splitting and leaking.I went through about 4 of them before getting the extractors...The above results are what I ended up finding with them..I paid around $700 for my pacemakers, thats up here in the bush through a local exhaust shop....online would be the best bet for the best prices.

I understand the whole concept of VE but i think the gains in terms of economy are minimal on a stock engine. With a better complete exhaust system some improvements to intake systems and a tune to harness potential of both i can say the benefit to both ecomony and power would yeild better results.

Possibly the best arguement made here for getting extractors is the exhaust manifold cracking issue those cast ones are very prone to it.

Agree with pub, not worth it at 600, but if you got them cheap like me (150) then they are worth every cent... Especially since my passenger side manifold was cracked... If your one is cracked then just get extractors

Get a K&N Panel Filter with a 2.5" exhaust and you will see better fuel economy and slightly better performance That's with the extractors
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!

Scour ebay for a nice 2nd hand set (make sure they are the right ones though), they can make your throttle more responsive and with a sports exhaust and extractors and cold air intake you may notice a slight power increase even on a stock engine.

not sure on your car, but I noticed better fuel eco on my car. I paid $400. Plus anything that keeps under bonnet temps smaller is a bonus.

What isn't illegal these days mate?!?! Anyways I wouldn't really class a pod totally in the "rice" category, however they can be extremely inefficient if you don't couple it with a CAI or something... Just having a pod sitting in the engine bay is a massive wank and just draws in hot engine bay air which is just false economy. Put a pod inside of an airbox with a CAI leading into that air box and then your onto something
