Hey guys
Just wondering what wiring is needed to run the engine because me and my dad are starting a hotrod build for me and i wanted to use a commodore six properly my vp as a donor ill use the diff, motor and gearbox. Just wondering wat sensors are needed and what i can get rid of i know ill need the ecu crank senser and fuel injection wiring but what else?
basically you'll need the complete engine wiring loom..
and you will need to patch a few wires to the outgoing plugs from it. so you have 2 near the battery and one just above the ecu (under the dash) on the passenger side.
few +'s, few -'s, and few lights and you should be going.
yeah mate pretty much.. if you want it to run anywhere near efficient or reliably.
Ok thanks mate and now a bit off topic but saves starting another thread im gunna strip my vp as a donar for my hotrod build just want to know a few things lol,
If i get rid of the ac compresser and power steering will i be able to get a belt that will fit it? also with the fuel line i just will need from the tank to the pump through fillter to reg before injecters?
You can get rid of the air con compressor easily enough and buy a non air con shorter belt. To delete the power steering pump you will need and idler pulley set up. If you are using a Commodore steering rack you may as well stay with power steer as it is cheaper than buying an idler pulley conversion. For the fuel system you will need an in tank pump or lift pump, swirl pot, efi pump and a fuel return line to the tank. If you are going to use a Commodore tank from a fuel injected engine it will have a built in swirl pot and pump.
Ok well i will be putting in a holden front end in the car so if i can adapt a comm rack i will use it and yeah im gunna use as much as posible off the commodore to make a cheap lil project. Also i am a fitter and turner/ machinest to couldent i make a idle pully for it my using say the stock pully and bearing making a plate that bolts to where the power steering was and offseting the right distance?
No reason why not if you have access to the necessary tools.
Yeah well my work has a profile cutter (like a laser cutter but not a good also two big lathes and all the drills a guy could want lol. With the pully would it need to be the same size as the power steering pump?
Yes otherwise the belt won't be the correct length although I suppose there are other size belts.
Yeah i thought that after i posted lol. ill have start up a project thread when i start
You can delete the power steering and run a shorter belt routed around the outside of the tensioner, i ran like that for a couple of seasons in 34g with no issues. You'll need to run a return line to the tankfrom the rail if converting from a carb system and all hoses will need to be upgraded to high pressure efi spec

Ok thanks ill look into that and i will run all the lines needed coz i have a chassis and a front end so ill go from there.
Thanks alot it is printed and in the shed lol
well took the commy for a drive today is leaking oil from the front sum where so i think it is almost tim to pull the motor for a freshen up and part out the commy. engine will get all ally polished and everthing else painted red for the hotrod
