jack up the rear of your car and look infront of the petrol tank there will be a think with a hose coming out of each end that looks like a coke can, thats your petrol filter.

The easiest way I found to depressurize the fuel lines was to run the car with the fuel pump fuse removed until it stopped. Took about 15 seconds.

just thought i'd let you guys know i changed it.

I jacked the rear drivers side up and got under there.

I didn't depressurize the lines, but it wasn't that bad, i just quickly put the caps that came with the new ones on to block anything coming out.

    Didn't spill to much

    lol funny stories here ,
I nearly killed myself, i had a huge trolley jack lifting the back half of the car untill the front bar was sitting on the ground.
I couldn't find any blocks of wood i normally use to secure the car then after hopping out from under the car to get new rags the bloody thing dropped.
The lever wasn't all the way accross and it started dropping, it wasn't instant but i would have had a hard time getting out :my:

Edit: now i also remember one time with the ford laser, i had those shitty little wind up jacks with the big screw in the centre, i was about to get underneath the car and it just slammed down to the ground, the whole thread stripped itself.
I think its time i learnt and got some stands...

    Cool

Try using milk to wash petrol out of your mouth/eyes.... works a treat !!!!!

Bit like milk works great for chillies.
I depressurised the system by pulling out fuel pump fuse but still got quite a squirt, if i tipped the filter up so the fuel ran out the back it was like mud :my:
otherwise it ran clean out the other end, how it should!

I think I'll replace my fuel filter....what's the best way to depressurise it before replacing it? How much do they cost?

13 bucks I think I paid from Sprint Autos. Only way I know of is to rip out ya fuel pump fuse, and run it till she stalls.
    Cheers, Gaz

just like the book says - take out the fuse ( its in the fuse block in the engine bay - Fuel Pump fuse) - then start the car. Mine ran for about, ohh 3 seconds before it stalled - then crank it over for another 10-15 seconds only - this *should* remove all fuel from the filter. ( It won't, there will always be a bit of residual fuel to splash out ). Then just undo the clamps ( mine had worm-drive clamps, some may have pinch-clamps, you need a pair of pliers for these babies), and heh presto, out she comes. Bung in the new one ( don't worry if it is a bit smaller, the newer filters have a smaller body, just look for the 'replace z200' sticker).

I did mine after reversing the car up onto some ramps. Its a bit of shitty job, but only took about 10 minutes all up. Can't remember the cost, it wasn't much from memory, maybe 20-30 bucks ??

    cheers
    Dave

on that, does it make much of a difference. The service manual suggests to change it every 6 months from memory and i havent changed it since i've had the car (3 years). Is it really that nessessary to change that often?
    I love my VN
