Default Conversion of an automatic to a manual.

Hi i own a VP commodore and would like to convert it from an automatic to a manual. Is this process a difficult one? If it is relatively easy what part's would i need beside's the manual gear box?

Manual box, fly, clutch, clutch cable, pedal box, patch loom for the shifter (normally comes with the box), tailshaft and about 3/4 day of your time. Straight forward job. Just a tip though, fully take out the steering column to change over the pedal box - it's just much easier that way.

v6 v8? when i sold the conversion kit off my wrecked vt v6 i sold the drive shafts, transmission (with clutch, clutch fluid res bottle, and flywheel), engine loom (with manual ecu), floor pedal assembly, shifter boot surround, and youll need the manual radiator with the different hoses i think. some of this wont apply to the vn/vp but its something to think about... the next posts will fill in the gaps...

VT had a getrag box and hydraulic clutch actuator. VN-VR have a clutch cable and thus is somewhat simpler. You use the same ECU on manual/auto with a VP although it's probably recommended to get a manual tune. Radiator etc is exactly the same on a VN/P - just disconnect any transmission cooler lines if it has them.

The pedal box bolts to the firewall under the dash. Auto has 2 pedals, manual has 3.

Time and effort vs gain is minimal. If your bored go for it other wise don't bother. Every one seems to make it seem easy but it's a lot messing around just for a 3rd pedal and stick shift.

im a luxury car kinda guy, manuals dont do it for me. im a lazy yank, and the calais and statesmans are the closest thing i could get to a cadillac. i can see the fuss with manuals if your gonna build a tire fryer....
