Default Throttle Response

Hey,

I am kind of new to the whole V8 thing. I have already been pretty baddly shafted by my own cousin with the engine i bought off him, so i think it makes me worry even more, but here is my question.

I feel that response on my VQ 5.0L is not very good.

When I drive my mother in laws VS 3.8L I feel that has a better throttle response, and feels it's a little faster.

Now is this how all V8s are or is there something going on with my.

Just feels that you have to press it a little hard for the power you get back.

What's the service history like? has the manifold been cleaned out with carby cleaner spray ? this usually works to gain back a little throttle responce.

clean the throttle body .. .change your spark plugs .. change your spark plug leads .. change your engine and transmission oil.

FIRST things that really must get done whenever you come into ownership of a car or motor.

cmon guys.. how in hells name do you know when the last time "for real" all those basic upkeep things were done? sure he says i changed the sparkies a few weeks ago .. but who bothers to check?

those things will all add to a bit smoother / better operation

As mentioned, start with the basics - tune, new oil, throttle clean, ect.
But you also have to remember that the V6 has a taller diff ratio. Probably in the range of 3.45:1. Your V8 will probably have 3.08:1 gears. Changing the 3.08 gears to 3.45 or similar will give you much better response when you drop the hammer!!

diffs ratios are the same mate..

stock V6 vs stock V8 in the vn series .. your looking at a bees dick worth of difference in performance until your reach into 50kmh upwards..

i know my old vn 5spd v6 had no trouble whatsoever in keeping up with any VN SS VQ 5.0 or even the one VS SS i took on
(dont get me wrong ..as soon as i hit 70kmh i got slaughtered like i was riding a pushbike .. but my point is, there really isnt much difference in acceleration between a 6 and 8, till u get a bit further down the power curve)
