    Default Air Filter advice please?

    Hi all,

I recently purchased a VP ute with a VS 5.0L motor. It has a Big Mouth Air Filter and it causing the Bonnet not to close properly, it closes ok but stick up 4-5mm. Also, when idling its sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

My Question if i wanted to change the air filter set up, i am assuming two immediate options would be 1. Swith back to a factory set up. 2. Switch to comething like a Pod Filter setup.

So in doing either of these which would be better of the two, or would you reccomend sticking with the Big Mouth Filter.

one more thing, which would make the least amount of noise, or is this normal in a 5.0L

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have no idea what a big mouth air filter is.

Hearing the induction noise is normal. I love it personally. If you fit a pod filter it will be noisy still. If you go to a factory setup it will be almost silent and the cops wont hassle you about it, so that's probably what you will want to do.

    Cheers

I went and seen a helpful guy at Auto 1 and he told me the Big Mouth Air Filters are an awesome unit, worth about $5000 and perform really well. It's my first 5.0L so i am still adjusting to the sound, dont get me wrong... I LOVE the roar, but the air is like a vacuum cleaner. Means only one thing, make the engine roar louder :-)
so i have decided to keep the original setup but they guy at Auto 1 said it could been intalled a bit better the way it makes the bonnet stick up. So i am going to save up to buy a new thermo fan that will help fit the air filter in better.

Your big mouth type of intake could be for a later model commodore and its fouling on the bonnet on one corner (My VS cold air intake fouls on my VN bonnet on one corner of the front section of the plastic intake so I just trimmed the corner off). worth looking into to see if thats the go so your bonnet closes.
