Hey guys. I've recently had to replace my pressure plate, so I've obviously had to take the gearbox out, which meant draining it.
But I haven't got any gear oil that I used last time, so I was wondering if the Duragear 75W90 gear oil we use for our landcruiser gearbox is fine?
Cheers.
should have dx3 trans fluid in it not gear oil

yes manual the T5 is a worldclass model and requires the use of DX3 trans fluid for it to shift properly use DX3 and a tube of nulon gearbox additive.or fill with redline shockproof oil if you want to spend $$$

Shit. I think I put in 75/90 gear oil last time, and it fixed the problems I was having with 2nd gear being difficult to engage, and I'm pretty sure ATF came out of it.
Why does my service manual suggest 75/90 gear oil then? But many others suggest ATF?
i think the vn book was a missprint LOL gear oil just kills the synchros fast

VP book says the same, 75w 90. The genuine book would not have a mistake like that, escpecially over two models. Vr are the first to be world class according to the genuine Holden manuals. I run 75w90 in my VP T5 and ive found it to be fine. There are countless threads on this subject, most end up in a JC b***h fight lol.
Also the Penrite lubrizol bottle specifies its for World class transmissions and in brackets VR commodore forwards.
Yeah, see a year ago I was having problems with the 2nd gear synchro, which meant it was grinding sometimes when I'd try to engage. But only when warm. So I changed the oil with 75/90 gear oil I had here, and it was fine. Stick was only fractionally more difficult to move on COLD winter mornings, but after five minutes, everything was fine, and I never had another shift problem again.
the synchros in a world class box have a lining on them made from the same stuff automatic clutches are made of thats why they say use dx3.we now run a 70% dx3 30% gear oil mix (pretty much redline shockproof) with a tube of nulon just so we get some impact resistance in the manual turbo at 450+hp havnt killed a box since .weve killed them with gear oil and trans fluid sperately.but they do shift the nicest with the reccomended dx3 or the thin shockproof stuff.vn boxes to vr boxes are all borg warner world class T5's and the synchros dont last long with gear oil as we have found out a few times :P

I always used Castrol VMX 80 in my T5. Behind a 200rwkw L67 for about 6-7 years, never had a single problem with it. Treating a T5 with a bit of respect is the key to a long and happy life IMO.
I would agree, but then there's the old bombs that no matter how much you fang the daylights out of them, they just keep on keeping on.
Ive got the VP,VR and VS gregorys workshop manuals, and Ive got a haynes VN to VS V6/V8 workshop manual and they all say that the early T5's (VN-VP) use 75w-80 gear oil and the VR and series 1 VS T5 manual boxes use dexron 111(3) auto trans fluid and 150 ml's of lubrizol. The later series 2 getrag manual box in the VS uses 75w-85 gear oil.
