Some time ago I had a 253 VH and I =thought= it had a 3.08 diff. In 3rd gear in the Trimatic at 2000rpm it would do exactly 80kph. Now this VP I have at 2000 in 3rd (auto) does 70kph even though it supposedly has a 3.08 diff as well. What's your experience?
you probably had a 2.78 diff
The options tag on the VH said GU4 rear axle, i.e. 3.08 non-LSD. Had done 370,000 when I got it so it may have been changed.
Wonder how the VP would go with a 2.78 or even a 2.6 :-P
Currently does 1900 rpm @ 100kph with a 3.08, a 2.6 would bring it down to 1600 rpm. Moonshot gearing.
I would imagine the 3rd in the vp would be taller/shorther (never get that right) than 3rd in a traumatic. Been that with 4gears and a LU torque converter that 3rd dosent need to be as tall/short as it has a wider range of ratios in the box been 4 gears as opposed to 3
3rd is 1:1 in both gearboxes. Maybe it was windy that day... There is way to many variables to get an accurate reading.
