    Default Replacing headlining/rooflining

    Hi There,

I am going to attempt to replace my headlining/rooflining and have read a number of posts in the How-to section.

    My questions are:

    1) Would a 3mm foam be sufficient?
    2) If I was going to go a dark charcoal would you also remove the door trims and do them as well? Currently they are a light grey and I have VS Statesman seats in the car.

    Thanks!

get 1.6m of velour. it has a 3mm foam backing on it. i read that how-to post and had a bit of a chuckle. i mean spotlight materials? really? lolz. dunno about over east but in WA you can buy direct from big upholstery suppliers. id assume over east there would be alot more distributors so it should be redily available. should cost you about 20 dollars. give or take. do it right or go to a trimmer :P

Definitely get the correct roof lining with foam backing already on it as its not worth double gluing foam separately. Dont put anything up that is tacky or too dark, best to try to match the origional as close as possible. Original looking cars are far more valuable.

I actually used my original lining and put new foam behind it as I couldnt find a matching colour but it was double the amount of work.

lol i couldent imagine using the old velour and gluing foam on it. that would be horrible lol. most distributors have heaps of grey shades (wich most hoodlinings are) grey beige black etc. i agree with just using a grey. black sounds cool. but you get it in and want to paint your plastics. looks so out of place. goodluck.

Get as close to original unless you are prepared to start trying to match the rest of the plastic. Also better at resale. Just my opinion

i used a faux fur in the other daily horse. you dont need foam backing cause the fur has a short pile and hides even the most messed up cardboard. plus people get a good laugh out of it. in the end i got too rough with the cardboard and it cracked in half pillar to pillar right through the middle. once it was in place and the dome light was in you cant tell... the fur hides it all.

Haha, well Im assuming the tiger fur wasnt put on a SV5000, imagine that !!!

Yeah it was hard work scrapping off the old foam in my VP SS and re-using the old one but I couldnt find the grey/blue shade and want my car to be origonal.. Couldnt recomend it unless your obsessed with keeping your car origonal, as I am.

I do like the tiger fur and would be happy having that in a v6 berlina or executive so long as my gf's name was Sheryl :-p
