Default 18" Rims look dumb on a VN VP, Do you agree ?

Hi I have been looking at rims alot lately and have come to the conclusion that the biggest wheel that looks good on a VN - VP is 17" and even then the only 17" rims I like are the VR Clubsport rim or those ROH 5 spoke rims with the dish.

Overall though I believe the 16" VP clubsport or SV5000 rims are the best you can get appearance wise.

Curious to see what other peoples opinions are?

I reckon no bigger than 18 on the earlier models, and no bigger than 20 on the newer models (vy up). But that's my personal opinion and there are always exceptions to the rule.

Jam jar lids fitted with rubber bands...

I reckon 14 or 15 inch wheels look best.
What is a typical tyre price for those really low profile ones?

    17" VP GTS/VQsv93/VR Clubport rims
    Or Original Hubcaps
    Or VN Calais Rims
    ARE THE BEST

depends on the rims, usually after market rims that are smaller than 18's just looks like arse....

But I am a fan of 17's, its pretty much the best size for handling, comfort and looks

Imo, it looks good, most 20's look to big on older cars, but 15,16 and most 17" look to small. Thats just my opniion though. I am a fan of hubcaps and chasers, but no aftermarket 15's and 16's whatsoever

I've always preferred the clean look of stock holden wheels or slightly newer holden/hsv wheels on there. Ie. VT Calais internationals on a vn-vs

personally i dont like anything bigger than 18s and sticking to genuine rims always looks better. Love vl walkinshaws. But i got vn sv89s on my care same as walkinshaws only in the white. Stick with the smaller rims i reckon

I dont think any bigger than 18 looks good on anything personally. As someone said before, jam jar lids with rubber bands round them, not a good look. You also have to think of the cost of those ultra low profile tyres, and the numb bum syndrome you will develop soon after buying them.

I just have standard VS Berlina wheels on my VS, and they look OK and are cheap as chips to replace tyres on. I might eventually get some 5 spoke 18's of some kind though, but its going to be hard to let go of the comfort the extra cushion the 15's provide. Easier choice for me though, I don't have square wheel arches to contend with. Lots of wheels look like absolute crap in those arches.

As for hubcaps, not an option - unless you are talking 70's style chrome steel wheels with chrome steel hubcaps - now that's a wheel I would buy .. an 18" chrome 12 slotter and chrome hubcap with Holden lion stamped into them..

Both the cars above in the pic look pathetic with them wheels on them, they just dont suit at all.It doesnt take much to ruin the look of an otherwise good looking car.

Depends on offset, dish, pattern and if the lip is black vs silver which makes the tyre size look different on the rim. There is no blanket statement that can cover wheels really.

Anything that makes a otherwise excellent car look crook is pathetic I reckon, whether it be a crook set of wheels, or stickers plastered all over it.I would also say the same thing about some good looking commodores that get lowered in the rear end,it just looks pathetic and ruins the good looks of an otherwise excellent looking car.Thats what I think when I see a car like Ive mentioned above, and its just my opinion,no one has to take any notice.

I don't like the Sigs much either. They look like giant plastic hubcaps in my opinion. That's just my personal taste though, and that's why there are many styles of wheels available.

Yeah definiatly seems to be an each to thier own thing. Also I bet younger people prefer bigger rims.. Maybe your age correlates to your rim preference. haha

Im 35 and like 16s with square arches but am partial to 17s if they are the VR Clubsport rims.

Definiatly for ride quality I noticed my VP SS was so much smoother on 215 60 15s. When I changed to 225 50 16s ride quality deminished by about 20 percent but it also highlighted all the weaknesses in my cars suspension. Since changing wheels Ive done Caster Rod Bushes, Swaybar Bushes, Tie Rod inners and outers and a wheel bearing. I didnt feel any of those faults with 15s !!!!
