I recently got a new car battery for my VP calais a few months ago and it went dead so i took it back to where i bought it and got it recharged.
my car is working fine now but when i put in the battery the first time i noticed that i attached the terminals in the wrong order ... meaning i put on the negative terminal before the positive one .
Just wanted to know if that would do any damage to anything in the electrical
could blow some relays and fuses. but if you say its all ok should be fine. ive seen smoke come from an alternator once on a hq couple years back one of the apprentices hooked up the jumper pack backwards... but it didnt seem to do any damage...
I did this on the weekend... I couldn't start my car, and naturally I thought she was toast but turns out I only blew a 20A fuse under the hood..
i've often put negative on first, positive last. i usually disconnect positive when working on electrics because it's easier to remove (lazy). never once had a problem. it shouldn't matter, i thought the only reason you're supposed to take negative off first / put it on last is to avoid short circuiting your tools with the body on the positive terminal.
Should not matter what order you connect up the battery but as said by others if you put the negative on last there is less chance of accidentally causing a short with your tools to the body
